Sabalo Lodge

If you're looking for adventure, look no further--from the point of leaving your transport behind at "Las Vegas Restaurant" on the Sierpe and boarding the boat that takes you to Sabalo, you will be in for a treat. Having been to Costa Rica several times, I had never yet been "in the jungle" and my friend and I wanted this experience. Our hosts, Dan and Holly, were very gracious and invited us to share their environment with them, teaching us about the surroundings, the wildlife; feeding us delicious meals and letting us just relax on the beautiful grounds. The lodging, though simple, is clean, and all the necessities/amenities needed are provided (organic shampoos, etc). The stream at the back makes for a delightful swimming hole to cool down whether you've spent the day relaxing on the hammock or taking a local tour of the rivers. The grounds are gorgeous with all sorts of vegetation; be sure to check out their garden in the back. We were also delighted to be "serenaded" by the lightning bugs at dusk who provided our light to help us get back to our cabin. Great retreat on the Osa Peninsula!

We loved Sabalo Lodge. Dan and Holly were incredibly hospitable (even went out of their way to make me a birthday cake), and their food was ASTOUNDING! The bungalows are adorable and incredibly clean. The property is isolated but breathtaking: we saw monkeys and all kinds of tropical birds just wandering around on it. A great place for a total change of pace!
We especially recommend buying the package that gives you two days on the beach at the end. We feel like we got a really great taste of Costa Rica--both jungle and beach!

My wife and i enjoyed a beautiful honeymoon here the owners are wonderful people and great cooks as well. The grounds are great for viewing monkeys and all types of birds not to mention some of the flowers are a site to be seen. We enjoyed every minute we had there and hated to leave but we will be back soon.

We enjoyed every moment of our 6 night stay at Sabalo Lodge over New Years. This secluded lodge with its beautiful grounds were a perfect get-away. We took advantage of all the local activities - horseback riding, kayaking, bird watching, the charming town of Sabalo, and the beach. Dan, Holly and their gracious crew took wonderful care of us.

Our stay in the sabalo lodge was realy unexpected but turned out to be our most fun stay during our trip in CR. There is much wildlife in the garden of the lodge(every morning monkeys eating in the trees), scarlet macaws, toucans ... The rooms are very nice and the food is realy good. We loved the swimming hole and had a good time with the owners of the lodge.

Only way to go there is by a boadride in the mangroves, this is a realy beautifull trip. Do this early in the morning or almost at dawn(like we :p) and you'll see much birds there...
