The day the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a pandemic, my wife and I decided to end our vacation in Costa Rica early and return to our family in the U.S. I called the Iguana Lodge to ask about cancelling out 3 night stay we had scheduled a week later. They said they were going to charge us for our stay even though we weren't going to be there. What the hell kind of customer service is that?? They did say we could visit another time and use the days then. Like we go to Costa Rica regularly, NOT!

We stayed in a Club room over the restaurant which was not a problem regarding either noise or smells. The room was very small and ahd little storage. Both the room and tiny bathroom were clean and on the shared balcony we had a super view over the beach to the sea. The grey sand beach is not very nice and the chairs /sun shades provided by the hotel are limited in number and of terrible quality.
The hotel reception area looks like a junk shop and everywhere round the hotel there are crudely painted pictures of ladies faces. Why?
The owners of the Lodge appear disinterested and certainly do not have any inclination to maintain the facility to normal standards. Dangerously corroded balcony rails are just one example.
The prices charged are outrageous.

We stayed two nights in a Club room with a king bed and A/C. We were facing the ocean and were over the restaurant but had no issues with noise. Menu was delicious and we had no difficulty picking meals for two dinners. Beautiful Scarlet Macaws frequent the area and the beach was very quiet. Kudos to the welcoming staff.

We travel thru Costa Rica every year and have a small home there and travel around. Iguana was the most expensive place we stayed atand biggest disappointment. We had a king room and no air conditioning. We asked for air and charged $16.00 for one night. The king bed is 2 twin beds uncomfortable for us since it was even wherethe twins met. Our room is above the bar. The room has two windows on the wall that don't have drapes so until they turn the lights off downstairs at night it is light in your room. The room didn't have extra blankets so when we went to bed my boyfriend likes it cold and I don't so much. I had the sheet on me but I was freezing so I ended up putting the sarongs in the closet over top of me for the night and putting on extra clothes I had brought from Canada. It is out of town so we didn't feel like going back into town for dinner and we were told dinner was a chicken buffet and bonfire. It rained most of the afternoon so we were told the bonfire wasn't happening.NP. Dinner was in bar area and it was burnt dark meat chicken on the bone. No chicken breast. My boyfriend or I don't like dark meat. We had a couple drinks and were charged $125.00 dinner/drinks. WOW. I had some snacks with me so I ate them after we went to our room. The bedroom was small, nothing special. The pool was the only highlight. Disappointed the most probably because I was the most excited to stay here and breakfast was a bust. Fruit flies on fruit and eggs benedicts not good.

At the end of a rather bunpy dirt road about 8 minutes from the center of Puerto J[minez the property has its own access to a really nice beach, the restaurant and breakfast are quite good, good bar. The rooms are just OK, some don't have AC so if you book make sure you specify, no minifridge, most rooms are on second floor so stairs
