Six friends shared the Beach House and had a fantastic time. It was the first trip to the Osa for my friends while I had been a few times before. I knew that Iguana Lodge would be the perfect place to stay for our water activities and tours before heading up to another lodge.

The three story Beach House is in the midst of lush tropical landscaping with a view of Golfo Dulce from the decks. The bottom floor is an open veranda with a full kitchen, bar and 1/2 bath. We stopped at the Super Mercado on our way from the airstrip and loaded up on Happy Hour fixin's which we thoroughly enjoyed each afternoon.

The second floor has two bedrooms with two beds each and one shared bath, while the third floor/master suite has two beds and a bath. Both floors are very open but screened in to keep out the bugs. You feel as though you are in a tree house living in the middle of the jungle!

My friends opted for a 1/2 day hike with Sidnar and loved it. He was able to spot numerous types of wildlife, some of which were only spotted that day such as the sloth. We also went on the 1/2 day dolphin tour with Jose which was fabulous. He used his sonar to see where the dolphins were and it was a pod of approximately 100. It was so much fun to watch them jumping and spinning! He then took us to a quieter area above a reef where we went snorkeling and then to lunch in Golfito at La Marinera.

Most of our meals were eaten at the Pearl and were delicious, but a tad on the pricey side. That's to be expected considering the remote location of all the Osa lodges. We did not have a car so needed a taxi back/forth for tours. We had dinner one night in PJ at Delfino's which was a fun atmosphere with good food.

Wildlife sightings from the Beach House were excellent. Squirrel monkeys are often quite elusive, but we had a troop of about 30 run through the trees in front of us on two afternoons. Scarlet macaws are numerous and loud, but can often be difficult to see being so high in the trees. They are simply gorgeous to watch as they fly across the sky. Howler monkeys were spotted in the trees near the pool and the Halloween crabs were out at night.

The gingers and heliconias were in full bloom and absolutely stunning. The landscaping is just gorgeous around the grounds.

Sunrise comes early and was spectacular! I enjoyed it by myself along with pelicans flying past and it was the perfect start to another great day.

Maxine was very helpful in getting our reservation set, sending tour info and answering questions in advance. Mardi was great getting us settled and signed up for tours upon arrival. Pamela waited on us for meals and was just lovely. Lauren and Toby, the owners, were usually at the restaurant during meals and were happy to answer any questions.

There is a three night minimum at the Beach House which was the perfect amount of time for us. I highly recommend this unique lodging for friends or family. It will be an unforgettable stay!

We only stayed one night - in a Club Room w/ A/C - and oh, we wished we would have stayed longer! i wanted to experience a few different kinds of lodging options & this was one to which we will definitely return. The room was clean, comfortable, A/C, wifi, safe, hot water, soap-shampoo-conditioner, nice towels, outdoor deck (shared), right above Pearl of the Osa restaurant (which has fabulous food). We barely got to explore all that IL has to offer, but we enjoyed every minute of our short stay. The ONLY downside is the distance from town - if you want to do an activity that leaves from Puerto Jimenez dock, for example, you need to do taxi to/from - but that is really not that big a deal. Club room is a great deal which includes breakfast. Highly recommend! And staff is very helpful & quick to respond via email!

Room tip: If you want a budget-friendly option, with or without A/C, the club rooms are affordable, clean, & comfortable.

My husband and I had a wonderful relaxing getaway to Iguana Lodge. We chose to stay in one of the air conditioned club rooms. It was very nice and comfortable. Our only wish was that there had been a blanket on the bed, not just sheets. I'm sure if we had asked they would have provided one, but we just made do. We enjoyed sitting outside our door on the lounge chairs and hammocks. The rooms are directly above the restaurant with gorgeous views of the beach. One night the restaurant guests were loud until about 10pm, otherwise it wasn't a problem. The resort is breathtakingly beautiful. Keep your shoes on, you are bound to step on a lizard, crab or frog, especially at night. The pool is beautiful and there is never anyone there. The water was the perfect temperature. Unfortunately the jacuzzi was not much warmer, we were hoping for more of a hot tub. (I know it's 80-90 degrees outside, but still love a hot tub) The jets also did not seem to work. At night all the crabs take over the pool. We thought we would go for an evening dip, but found the pool full of critters I did not want to swim with, my husband hopped in and had fun with the crabs.
At night the resort is not well lit. We were provided a flashlight in our room. Make sure to wander after dark, you will hear and see new things including the glowing fluorescent trees that sparkle at night. It was just like the movie Avatar.
We both had a massage in the open air room. It was the best massage I've ever had. Something about the humidity, and listening to real rainforest sounds. The masseuse was fantastic, I asked if I could give her a hug, despite Covid, because I loved it so much. I will go back here one day just for the massage.
Before our trip there we had corresponded several times with the resort. We wanted to reserve a tour, but were assured that we didn't need to book it until we arrived. Well when we got there we could not do the waterfall/tree rappelling tour on the day we wanted to. It turned out our only option was to do the tree climb the morning we checked out, we could not fit in the waterfall rappelling. This was disappointing and made our arrival day a little stressful. The resort allowed us to check out a little later so we could get cleaned up after tree climbing. We did absolutely love that experience, just wish we could have done more.
We did enjoy the tennis court one morning. We also used the provided kayaks and went out past the waves to a reef. We hoped to snorkel there, but the water was to rough at that time. We did however see dolphins. We also used the resort boogie boards for several hours. The beach is beautiful, and we were almost always the only ones within sight.
We had several meals at the Pearl restaurant below our room. The food was good, but nothing special, we felt it overpriced and enjoyed local food in Puerto Jimenez more. We were ready for breakfast each morning about 630am and that seemed to be a little early for the restaurant, even though they were open. By the time we got service at 7, we only had time to grab some fruit and go. Another morning we just asked to get some eggs and tortillas to go because there was no way they would serve us in time for us to make our tour. The room included breakfast, and it would have been nice if we could get our moneys worth and a nice full breakfast, we just never had an hour to wait for it. The lunch and dinner meals were provided for much faster.
We were very glad we had a vehicle here. We went into Puerto Jimenez (15 minutes) almost daily for food, souvenirs, our Covid tests, and we did drive ourselves to Matapalo for the Tree tour. I don't know what a taxi would have cost, but we were glad to have the flexibility.
Everyone that worked here was very helpful and kind. The day we checked out we were hours away when we realized we had left behind something very important in our room. We emailed the resort and they made arrangements to send our item on a Sansa flight to SJO airport, where we could pick it up before our flight home. This worked out perfectly and we so appreciated their help.
*About the tree climbing tour. We drove ourselves to Matapalo to meet the tour guide, it was about a 50minute drive. They told us a restaurant to meet at and Leo was standing on the road waiting for us. We parked there and walked through cow pastures up into the hills. It was a very leisurely walk, nothing strenuous. Once we were in the trees we began to see wildlife. Leo pointed out snakes, frogs, spiders, and we saw 3 types of monkeys. It was less than an hour to the tree. After you have on your harness, gloves, and hardhat you climb inside the tree up the tunnel of roots. We guessed it was maybe 70 feet up. Not a hard climb, took us each less than 5 minutes to get on the platform. It is quite narrow at the top. My husband and I are both small people, 130-175lbs. More than that would be difficult to get through. Kids would love the climb. Once ready to slide off the platform the height is a little intimidating. Unfortunately It wasn't the type of rappel where you can kick off and swing and fall fast, it was just a very slow descent. But we really enjoyed it. Hiking back we were given the option of going straight back to our car or doing a small detour to see a waterfall. We chose the waterfall. It was two small falls with pools we swam and cooled off in. That helped make up for missing the waterfall tour. In all it was just over 3 miles.

Room tip: Get air conditioning!

We had heard a great review of the lodge from a friend and it did not disappoint. We went for a 2nd honeymoon (20th wedding anniversary) and stayed for a week in a casita. Getting there involved another leg (short flight from San Jose) but was well worth it. The resort was beautiful, full of nature, and the beach was perfect. We love boogie boarding so the waves were just the right size, the sand was soft, and the beach was secluded. On the property there were several types of monkeys, lizards, tree frogs, crabs, scarlet macaws; nature was everywhere. The casita is a fairly open concept of lodging in the trees so you get to wake to the sound of the ocean and the howler monkeys! While relaxing at the pool, you can watch the monkeys swinging from tree to tree. Breakfast is included and it was delicious! The staff were super friendly and even the owners are on-site and ready to help. They had a few special dinners such as a pasta and salsa dancing evening and dinner on the breach by torchlight. In advance of our trip, the Lodge sent us loads of helpful information about the Lodge and out-trips we could do. A highlight for us was Andy’s tree climb. Andy patiently showed us how to climb a tree and then we got to jump off (roped in safely) - what a rush! The tree climb adventure included a stunning waterfall walk. If you want to run away from it all and spend some time in a peaceful paradise - Iguana Lodge is the place for you!

Room tip: I really loved the casita room! Sleeping in nature, among the trees!

My husband and I had a wonderful time at Iguana Lodge. We actually stayed an extra night, we didn't want to leave. We stayed in an air-conditioned club room over the restaurant. It was small, but very comfortable and nicely decorated. The restaurant is very good, and is a great place to relax in the afternoon with a cocktail looking at the ocean ( photo below). The wait staff are very nice, we really enjoyed speaking with Joseph. A beach dinner is offered on Tuesdays, it was fantastic, with a bonfire! In Costa Rica the sun rises at 6am and sets at 6 pm. Coffee is ready at the reception area at 5 am! Breakfasts are amazing, the chef is very talented. We saw toucans in the trees during breakfast one day. The pool and yoga area are beautiful. The owner is an artist, her work is on display around the property. Really neat. I really recommend taking a tour with Sidnar, the naturalist. He is amazing! We took a morning excursion and saw so much...just wonderful. Many guests fly in to the airfield in Puerto Jimenez and have the lodge pick them up. It is a 10 minute trip on a bumpy road. If driving in Costa Rica, I would recommend figuring out the insurance issue before arriving in Costa Rica. I would download WAZE on your phone for navigation ( you will need internet). Driving in San Jose is very difficult. Once you are out of the city, the roads are very good heading to Jaco and down to Puerto Jimenz in Osa. We really loved our stay at Iguana, and would love to go again. The Osa Penninsula is beautiful.
