We stayed here twice in the last week. We had a resort booked somewhere else, flights were changed and we needed a place to stay on the front and back of our trip. I booked it first because I had enough points to stay for free on my Hilton Honors.
The room was beautiful, the staff was friendly, helpful, respectful and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. It was so nice that, when we needed to stay on the back end of our trip, I didn't even look anywhere else.
The price in the US would likely have been $25 or $30 more in most cities. The in-room coffee pots are junk, like most hotels. Room service was fast and easy. The front desk will exchange currency, at a price...it's cheaper to use an ATM or go to a bank for exchange. The rooms were large, beds comfortable, water was hot and plenty of pressure in the shower, TV stations were mostly in Spanish but there are a few in English.
They check your temperature before you are permitted to check in with a wall-mounted, laser beam type thermometer.
The restaurant is overpriced but the food was superb. A similar meal down the street would be 30% less, but I can't complain because it was hot and had great taste.
The hot tub (due to Covid) is by appointment only for 40-minute intervals and you have to reserve with the front desk. There is a telephone poolside.
The staff had great recommendations for groceries or local attractions, in the neighborhood as well as in the city.
The parking lot is gated. The attendant has a remote that opens/closes the gate, no problems there. There is an onsite gift shop that I didn't visit.
They will assist with a COVID-19 screen, in-room if you need this to return to the USA, we were traveling elsewhere so we didn't take advantage of this.
Within walking distance, about a block away, there is a small grocery store, different cuisine eateries, pharmacy, etc. It's a short drive to Alamo/National/Enterprise car rental lot.
Without a doubt, next time I need a room near SJO, I'll be back!
