Oldest restaurant in San Jose, tasty Italian food with great bread, wines, pasta and soup at reasonable prices.

As most others have reported, this is a really good restaurant located across (3m) from a long line of idling diesel buses whose exhaust occasionally wafts into the dining area. Aside from that, a great experience right around the corner from Hotel Balmoral if you happen to stay there.

We went with a couple Plato Mixto, Amatrician and Chicken Parmigiano. Served with a small basket of bread out first, the meals came in a decent amount of time and cooked to order. We all cleaned out plates and we're satisfied. A small gratis lemoncello brought to the table with the bill.

We would certainly have another meal here.

Saturday evening and just one table was occupied when we came in. We should had listen to that sign.
We Ordered pasta chicken and rabbit.
The pasta chicken was OK but not spectacular. We did asked "a dente" but it was over cooked.
The rabbit came also with pasta (surprise!!!). It was well cooked but it was swimming in the same tomato sauce as the pasta. It really did ruin the taste of the rabbit.
Price $50, was much to high for 2 pasta plates
The positive thing are the many old pictures of San Jose at the wall. It gives you something to watch while you try to flush your food away.

A pleasant eating experience in the heart of the city. They say they are the oldest restaurant in town. All the fascinating photos of old San Jose on the walls make it hard to dispute. Quality Italian food in a great atmosphere at a reasonable price.

This place is a true gem. After 2 weeks of wonderful fish and Costa Rican fare, I was ready for a change. What a wonderful delight to find this restaurant so centrally located to the old Central Square. Our waiter, Bennett, was so enjoyable and did everything possible to make us feel welcome
and comfortable. The meal started with to-die-for Sangrias and only got better from there. Being vegetarian, I opted for pasta Pomodoro made with homemade pasta. Wow! This steaming hot dish was served on a beautiful green fringe of freshly chopped basil. The rich aroma reached me even before the plate was placed before me. Seldom do I finish a pasta dish, but I left only a smear of the fresh red sauce as evidence of my over- indulgence. My friend said her beef was some of the best she had ever eaten. The only drawback of this old-world charm restaurant is the never-ending stream of busses parked across the street. But, do not let them stop you from entering, as you will soon completely forget them as the doors close behind you and you succumb to this lovely establishment in the heart of old San Jose.
