overnight stay in San Jose near US Embassy.

We stayed at this hotel for one night as we had an appt at the US Embassy early the next day and chose it for the proximity . There was absolutely no signage identifying the hotel. We spent 10-15 minutes looking for it despite Google Maps telling us it was there. I was about to give up and see if the Holiday Inn had a room, when we decided to look behind the Golds Gym parking lot. The pool courtyard was lovely and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. I suspect this was a really lovely hotel in the 1980s.
However, the interior and the rooms look like they were last updated 30 years ago. The carpets were stained and our room was super musty smelling. The shower ran out of hot water w/in 5 minutes. The bed was reasonably comfortable, but I suspect we were the first people in that room in a couple of months or more. We were up at 630 the next day and out the door as soon as we could get dressed. I am not planning on having to visit the US Embassy in San Jose any time soon, but would most certainly seek out a different hotel if there is a next time.

Hotel works in a pinch

This outdated hotel has a bit of an awkward smell in the breakfast area but staff is friendly and the rooms are kept clean. We were stuck in San Jose for a couple of days and booked it somewhat blind because we had poor internet access where we were. If you must stay in San José, it won’t hurt you to stay there but if you have a little time, look around for nicer options.

Very poor

Long time ago it might have been a nice hotel. Now it's dirty and disgusting. Rooms are noisy (due to the nearby highway), aircondition sounds like the engine start of a Boeing and the furniture and inventory (e.g. bathroom, etc) appears as used since the last century (literally) but never beeing serviced. The price is much, much overpriced for a hotel in "shining-style". Btw: 1 or (max) 2 stars would fit by far.
But there are good things too: the stuff is much more friendly than Jack Nicolson in the film.

Good stay

They hosted many high school groups touring for the summer and accommodated us well. Meals were staggered and multiple locations available. We would recommend this as it was also a convenient location. They rooms were clean and basic. Meeting facilities good too

Costa Rica with Kids 2022

Perfect rooms for accommodating large groups. No one has to share a bed. Pool is not lit at night so it could be dangerous. Halls need monitoring for kids racing and disturbing others. The front desk is VERY helpful for problems and minor emergencies. Convenient to market or pharmacy but not for sight-seeing or activities. Air conditioned rooms.

Room tip: Great for group travelers.
