I want to start by saying I am a “gringo”and have been coming to San Jose for about 10 years a couple times a year and staying from 2 weeks to a month in this beautiful country. I came for the adventure I know I can find here, I know some of you understand exactly what I mean.
I came down on Dec 14, 2022 and stayed until Jan 14, 2023. I stayed the entire time at the Dunn Inn and was totally satisfied and enjoyed my stay there immensely. I was only supposed to stay for 21 days but I was enjoying the visit so much I extended my stay a few times and stayed 30 days. The Dunn’s pleasant staff extended my extra days with no problem and on one extension upgraded my room to a beautiful suite.
The hotel itself is beautiful, not in a modern way but it has a warm “Old World” charm. The owners Linda and Victor support local artists and decorated the hotel with paintings and art that is for sale and the proceeds going back to the artists. Walking through the hotel is like walking through an art gallery. I bought 3 of the paintings as gifts for friends here in the US.

The rooms are clean, quiet and of adequate size for an enjoyable stay. There is one clarification I must make about the noise, I had a room adjacent to the streets and on Friday and Saturday nights there was late night noise from the traffic backing up because of the activity at the Taormina Hotel down the block.
The restaurant’s food was ok (this is Costa Rica so do not expect to get norte americano tasting food), the portions were adequate and the staff was beyond friendly and they always wore a smile even when serving an old toad like myself. The wait time was probably a little less than most restaurants in CR. Some of the staff does not speak english (and i no hablo espanol) but there is always someone there that can help translating.
Another topic I want to address is the reason I stayed at the Dunn Inn. My very good friend, Elizabeth Montero Zeledon whom I met during my first visit to CR 10 years ago directed me there and took care of all the details concerning my reservation and travel arrangements from the airport. Eli worked at Hotel Del Rey as the reservations and tour/travel manager. She worked there until covid when the hotel was basically closed because of a lack of customers. Eli now works as an independent booking agent for a group of hotels and tour/recreation/fishing franchises. She always strives to get the best bargains for her customers. i cannot say enough about Eli going the extra mile, in fact miles, for her clients, even making dental, doctor, etc appointments. Please reach out to her for a helping hand from a very qualified lady who will endeavor to make your stay in CR much more stress free and enjoyable. Eli’s contact info : WhatsApp +506 8742 3796More
