When I was a kid, I spent many happy hours learning to swim in this building. After the mining company left in the late 70s, a developer bought it and turned it into condos. It would be a difficult place to live, but it's a great place to spend a few nights. The suites are large and furnished with plenty of beds and futons, some have multiple bathrooms, and some have decks with nice views of the Gulch and the Canyon. It's all very clean, and while the decor and appliances are 80's retro, the apartments are comfortable and spacious.

The positives: The location is great. It's an easy walk uptown or to Brewery Gulch, and unless it's a very busy weekend in Bisbee, there's plenty of parking in the public lot across the street. The views from the decks are wonderful -- room 106 has a view of B Hill and the Gulch and is a perfect place for a glass of wine while the moon rises. There's wifi and a large screen TV for the time you're bored with gallery-hopping or taking in the night life.

The negatives: The original building was a number of huge spaces over several floors (a basketball gym, swimming pool, locker rooms) and the developers crammed as many apartments in as they possibly could. So the layout is like a rabbit warren and the charm of the old interior is gone. The place needs some maintenance -- the elevator doesn't stop on the second floor on the way up, so you have to go up to three and come back down, or else just take the stairs. Some of the planks on the deck have significant dry rot so you have to be careful where you put your chair. It can be noisy -- on a lazy Sunday morning it sounded like a herd of elephants was tap-dancing above us. And some of the spaces are located under stairs, so you can hear people walking up and down. There's no daily housekeeping and a lack of brooms or vacuums so it's hard to keep the floors clean.

All that being said, it's still a great value and a clean, comfortable, convenient place to spend a long Bisbee weekend. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

The suites are like condos, with a kitchen, living room, and sleeping area. We were in Suite 103, and had a great view of the mountains and the town. We were able to enjoy all the amenities of home, while enjoying a fabulous getaway. The Gym Club is walking distance to Main Street and Brewery Gulch. We have stayed in other Bisbee hotels and this was by far the best, because of its roominess and atmosphere!

Room Tip: Most of the rooms have views. The upper suite has a patio. Be sure to check the website for suite photos.

We stayed in room 106 which is on a corner of the building so you have windows on two side of the room. It's a little tricky to find but well worth it. The room is really an apartment with full kitchen, dining area, separate living area and bedroom. There is also a large deck with a table and some folding chairs.
The hotel is located behind the Copper Queen and is within easy walking distance to just about everything in downtown Bisbee. Meals, shopping and drinking are just a short walk away.
Check in time is between 3pm and 7pm although I understand that other check in times are accommodated with advance notice. We checked in with Lee who was very nice and helpful.
We would be happy to stay at this establishment again as well as recommend it to others.

This is a great choice, especially if you have a family. The room I stayed in (#105) was a two bedroom apartment with a full kitchen, living room, and spacious balcony. The room was clean. They do not offer daily housekeeping, but as the room was clean, this was not an issue. (I don't have daily housekeeping service at home either.) The room had three strong window A/C units and they worked great on a hot June day and night.

The drawback for me was the complete lack of color or character in the rooms. They are sterile white in color, with the furniture and style of circa 1989. The carpet was definitely worn (not dirty... worn). Both the kitchen and bathroom should be updated to eliminate the damage of time. This is NOT a reason to avoid the property, but if you must have the newest furniture and modern colors, this will not be your first choice.

As these are not as important to me as a convenient location, a clean room, and great A/C (essentially in Arizona), I will be back.

Room Tip: Any room with balcony is recommended.

I organized a hiking trip to southeast Arizona for 14 women. We wanted to spend the night in Bisbee, and we wanted to be in the same hotel if possible. The Gym Club Suites was a perfect choice for us. Each suite was larger and more well equipped than we could have guessed from the website - which is actually a great website for describing what there is. We ended up using 5 rooms, but we could have been very comfortable in only 4. My 2 friends and I shared suite 201 which is really a large apartment with 2 beds and a bathroom upstairs and another bathroom and bedroom downstairs. It has a huge kitchen, dining area, living area, TV area, and an enormous balcony. It was so big, all 14 of us were able to congregate in our suite for some games. I had wondered if there were dishes and kitchen utensils, e.g. a corkscrew. Well, there were 3 corkscrews! I took a tour of the other suites, and while ours was definitely the largest, they were all great. The price was very reasonable and the location perfect.

Room Tip: 201 is the best if you have at least 4 people. Make sure you get a balcony.
