We went to Saints in a large group. When we walked in I saw the “decor” and wondered what we were in for. I was very impressed, the service was excellent, the food was very good with an extensive menu. Well worth a visit if you are in Grahamstown.

The staff here are incredibly friendly and helpful. The place is a little spacious and when filled with people its fine but could be quite lonely if quiet. They have some craft beers and an ok wine selection. The food was variable - good steaks and salad. The pork was fatty and the livers a little messy. Menu might be too big for such an establishment.

The night we visited, there were more schoolboys than anyone else in the big space that Saint's inhabits. Big helpings and good prices? Yes, but not haute cuisine. That said, I enjoyed my melanzane, over-baked to order (so that the top is crusty and the tomato juices are baked in) and my partner loved the savoury rice side to his sirloin (`sirlion'?) steak, tender but rather grey. A huge menu and good service but humdrum food.

We ate there on a quiet weekday evening. There are regular specials, though we stuck with the main menu. The food was reasonable, both in terms of price and quality.
Both waiters who served us were trainees and didn’t know much about the menu. But they did a good enough job.

My one criticism relates to the lighting. The décor (if that’s what you can call it) is stark, almost industrial, but the lights are so bright they rather destroy they atmosphere.

Friendly fast service with good food. Fabulous space with loads of potential - in need of an Interior Design make-over!
