Our 1st stay at Punda Maria rest camp, having visited the Kruger many times in the past. We like the self-driving as much as the organised game drives in private reserves, which can become a little bit canned. Would the Punda Maria accommodation stand up to our hopes? It did. We’d booked a safari tent and it was great.
Attractively designed, accessed via a board walk through the bush, it had all we needed or wanted. Nicely done tented en-suite shower, sink and loo, soap, loo rolls, and good towels provided. Comfortable well-made large double bed. Roll-up sides with insect netting for ventilation. New full size fridge freezer and microwave inside (raiding baboons can be a problem if food is not put out of smell/ sight). A full set of kitchen utensils, plates, glasses, braai (bbq), bin/store in outside kitchenette. Washing up liquid, dish cloth and towel provided. The whole was clean and well-maintained. Add your own food, drinks, ice and firewood and you’re perfectly set up.
We ate in the small restaurant, not expecting anything much but it was simply good. Chicken Schnitzel was cooked well but not rubbery and roasted veg perfectly al-dente. Great greek salad, not a wilted lettuce leaf in sight. Partner regretted to ‘double’ burger but only because it was enormous, again burger perfectly cooked, good chips etc on the side. We breakfasted there too, just as happily.
Small shop had enough provisions if you’d forgotten anything.
Next time we’ll stay more than one night and explore the local archeology. Roads lovely and quiet in the north. Oh and we saw a leopard and a roadside lion nearby...

We have visited Punda about 20 times and in recent years the camp has become very untidy. Gardens are neglected and it just looks shabby with things lying around etc.
There is nothing wrong with the camping area or the interior of chalets, but management need to fix the water feature and tend to the gardens again.
This used to be a beautiful camp with immaculate surroundings, but not any more.

Everything you need is there, beds, aircon, kitchenette and bathroom. A small shop and restaurant also.
Not a lot of game on limited drives but birding is good. Not far to Pafuri and Crooks Corner - beautiful area.
No wifi.
Recommended.

Beginning of our Kruger adventure and this was the perfect start. No views from rooms but nice sitting out area, the food in the restaurant was great, wish all on Kruger were like this. Good value, great t-bone and wine. Staff pleasant and attentive.

This was our second trip to Kruger National Park and the 4th Rest Camp we have been to. As was the case in all the others, this one is well maintained and comfortable. We stayed in one of the Safari Tents. The weather was perfect (temperature wise) so air conditioning was not needed. I could see how it could get uncomfortably warm. The Restaurant was very good and the Service Excellent. SANParks really does have it together.
