Although we live in the United States, we had the privilege of making our third visit to the lovely Plumbago Guest House last week. Ilara and Robbie welcomed us as old friends, and they amazingly seemed to remember details of the conversations we had on our last visit a year ago.
Once again we had dinner at the Plumbago and Ilara prepared a splendid meal for us. Along with my son and daughter, I often try to duplicate her dishes when we return home. Ilara is a trained chef, and it shows.
On every visit we especially enjoy talking to Robbie to get fresh updates about his land-moving business and to hear his thoughts about politics and life in South Africa. And on this trip we had the special treat of meeting Ilara’a charming mother. What a delight she is!
Thanks to Ilara's attention to detail, Plumbago is one of those places that is consistently perfect. The guest rooms always have fresh flowers and a decanter of sherry along with crisply pressed sheets on the beds. She never forgets the little touches. But even better than Plumbago's inviting pool, the semi-tropical setting and the view of Kruger in the distance is the personal warmth and gracious welcome we receive from Ilara and Robbie.
