After a 10 day trip in Kruger we had such an amazing 3 night stay at Plumbago. A very warm welcome from Ilara and Robbie, a great suite, lovely food and excellent service. Ilara is a fantastic host and great cook and Robbie is not only a fantastic storyteller and host, but also a great waiter :)
This is a 5* guesthouse, but deserves 6*!
Thanks for the unforgettable time and we hope to see you again!

This guest house is brilliant: the setting, the grounds, the food, the accommodation is all 5 star. Impeccable service and incredible owners. It is an oasis of calm and luxury, with lots of privacy.

From the moment you arrive you are made to feel special by good "old school" hospitality. Ilara and Robbie are the best hosts you can wish for. They genuinely enjoy interacting with their guests and seeing to all their needs.

The lavish breakfast on the verandah (cold and warm) can give you a bit of an impression of the excellent cuisine you can expect at dinner.

As you plan your Panorama Route drive or visit to the Kruger Park, make sure to plan your stop here, and give yourself plenty of time to relax and re-energize at this wonderful place.

Room Tip: Excellent value for money!

This is a great spot to stay if you looking at being away from the city and close to the wonderful nature and wildlife on your doorstep. Go experience the Penguins 5 min walk away or take a lovely drive just 30 min to the Tip of Africa.
Lovely home with all the Amenities you need. Lovely people giving you a great welcoming!

I should preface this review by saying that the weather was miserable when we stayed at Plumbago and there were power cuts that added to the gloom that predominated in the house and room.

This was one of the most disappointing places that we stayed in on our three week holiday in South Africa. The room and bathroom were gloomy and old-fashioned and full of twee arrangements of flowers and bits and pieces, as well as air fresheners that would be bad news for asthma sufferers. Eating on the outside terrace was a bit chilly and we found the food not to our taste, especially the dinner, which was very salty. Breakfast was average in choice and quality. You need to like dogs around you if you are staying here.

The garden and setting are pleasant and the hosts very welcoming and helpful. Robbie helped us to plan our Panorama Route drive and Ilara went out of her way to assist with our hire car. However, they do need to get the generator sorted if, as we understand, more frequent power cuts are likely. Not being able to use the aircon/heating or a hairdryer because the generator is too small is not good enough for a paying guest business.

Be aware that the track leading to Plumbago is very rutted and needs great care to be taken in a standard car.

Dear Claranda,
thank you for your message -

We are terribly sorry your holiday started off badly already with the car rental Co - with your
air freshener in the vehicle being too strong ..... :-) And had to exchange the vehicle -

It seems that we did very little to satisfy your needs - whatever was experienced was not going to be a happy one. I am terribly sorry it was not what you expected at Plumbago -
just to clarify
The only very small HERBAL scented sachet (SINGULAR) we have in the cupboard is very delicate and does not have a strong fragrance at all. i am sorry this worried you so much ! I was not made aware before your arrival of your underlying allergies etc .... - if you had mentioned this i would have accommodated your request immediately.

With regards to the 3 dogs 1 jack russell 1x basset 1x lab
I did ask you if i should put the dogs away - THIS I ASK ALL THE GUESTS - should they prefer NOT to have the dogs around ............. we will gladly move them elsewhere on the property until the Guests departure. You said they were fine. so we left them.

Generator
we have had very few power cuts (except of course when you were visiting that seemed to add to your gloomy experience) and are not likely to have many in the future - I am hoping - we cannot help it when nature takes over and the lightning hits the power lines. I am sorry about this. we always feel bad when the Guests travel from far and have rainy weather.
Hats off to the properties that have their generators running all night - Our generator does not run all night when we have a power failure - we arrange with the Guest when they retire ... and switch off accordingly when lights out --- are required) - torches are available in the suites as well should there be a 3am need - once the Genie is switched off.
If you had mentioned you preferred the generator to run all night - we would have accommodated your request - as this would have been the first time ever - but we would have seen to this.

The FARM road
like the roads to probably all the 6 figure upmarket Safari Lodges - our road has a few bumps and muddy holes especially after the rains - we apologize for this - and do try and keep it in good order at all times.

Breakfast
I always thought our breakfast was superb!
as the following always complimented us on our superb variety freshness and tastes ...
Prime Ministers from all over the world
Ambassadors ....
Politicians local and from abroad
Royalty (incl. Family of the late Princess Diana) etc....
Wonderful people from all around the world - have been most complimentary and have found nothing wrong with our breakfast.

I am glad you were happy with the car hire service and the Panorama Route plan.
