I'm sure Carol,Jo and Bernie don't really need any more praise but I feel I have to share my experiences too! We arrived very early in the morning off a night flight and on arrival were told our room was available straight away - music to our ears. After a quick shower we were able to make use of our first full day in Cape Town. I'm sure that this opportunity will not always be available but we were delighted and felt at home straight away. We loved everything about Derwent House and felt that it was very much a team effort with everyone playing their part - because of shift patterns we mostly saw Bernie and Nicholas who couldn't have been more helpful, friendly and fun. We hired a car from the airport but we didn't need to use it that much as we found that we could walk to a lot of places and also the taxi company recommended were very reasonable and reliable.
Thank you everyone at Derwent House for making our first trip to Cape Town one we will always remember.

We arrived into Cape Town early (0600) and went directly to The Derwent House to drop off our bags and meet a driver for a wine tour. We were greeted by one of the owners of The Derwent House, Jo. Jo immediately made us feel at home and was able to check us into our room early. The room was perfect and Jo was extremely accommodating in every aspect. We were only supposed to stay at the DH for three days but were lucky enough to tack on an additional three days since they had room. Jo, Carol and Bernie as well as the staff treat you like family and having a wonderful breakfast every day is pretty nice too. The hotel is in a great location; close to Kloof and Long walking streets and Table Mountain. Book your stay here you won't be disappointed.

Let me start by saying we read all the raving reviews and after we booked even noticed that Derwent House had made it to the top global hotel list on Tripadvisor, so our expectation were very high. And let me continue by saying that it didn't start off well as the transfer that we arranged at the airport and had confirmation for never showed up. However, that first impression was quickly washed away by a warm welcome from Jo and some complimentary port. The lobby is so warm and welcoming and Carol, Jo and Bernie are all amazing. We were a bit worried about the location (on the map it looks a bit further out) but it has some of the best restaurants we tried in Cape Town around the corner (we were one of the first guests who tried the Jekyll and Hide restaurant in the first week it opened and, at least then, it was one of the best restaurants we had eaten in a while). Besides, we took cabs everywhere and they are very affordable (coming from a Dutch guy living in New York City). We stayed in one of the two apartments. The apartment was very nice, although if we would ever go back my wife and I would try to book one of the rooms. The only downside to this place is that if you stay in the apartment you are not in the main building (but around the corner) and you don't get breakfast (but breakfast at Cafe Paradiso, Cafe Cacao, and especially Melissa's...all around the corner...is all great). All in all we would def go back to Derwent House if we would ever be able to make the trip again.

Room Tip: I would prefer a room (which all include breakfast) over the apartment next time. The apartment doe...

Carol, Jo and Bernie really are wonderful hosts. We stayed at Derwent House for the first 4 nights of our 25th Anniversary trip around South Africa. The room was wonderful and the breakfast excellent. The honesty list makes one feels trusted and "at home". A local mobile phone is provided for all guests to use whist staying there. We left there to drive the Garden Route and returned 10 days later. It is only upon "checking out" that we were asked to pay for the full 5 nights accommodation. A real gem of a place, very centrally placed for safe walks to local restaurants (wonderful food) and a 45 minute walk to the Waterfront. There local "taxi" firm is totally reliable too. Would not hesitate to go back!

We loved our stay in Derwent House. Carol & Jo are the perfect hosts! Nothing too much trouble for these two ladies! They are helpful in every way and make you feel like you are staying with friends. My husband and I had a great time chatting with the girls whilst sitting by the wonderful pool area or having an afternoon drink in the gorgeous living areas. The interior of the house is just gorgeous, Jo does a fantastic job with the breakfast menu and the rest of the staff are happy and helpful. Room #3 is a little on the small side but we did have two balconies so could complain about that! When we return to Cape Town we will surely return to Derwent House!

In a city renowned for hospitality, Derwent House stands out as one of Cape Town's leading boutique guesthouses. Located in the heart of the vibrant Tamboerskloof/Gardens neighbourhood, this small hotel combines historic charm, contemporary Afro-chic style and all mod-cons for a uniquely Capetonian blend of ambience, warmth, and comfort. Our wonderful team completes the picture -- we go the extra mile for you and our guests leave as friends. We love colour and celebrate African design - you'll find it everywhere. But when it comes to the basics - like breakfast, bedding, showers, climate control, Wi-fi or news from home - we don't compromise so you don't have to. At Derwent House, you're steps away from the hustle and buzz of Kloof Street, with its collection of superb restaurants, bars and trendy boutiques--and just a few further to the nightlife hub of Bree and Long Streets. Yet just a short car journey from the Table Mountain cable car, the beaches of Clifton or Camp's Bay, and the V&A Waterfront. There's nowhere more central -- but come and see for yourself.
