Rupert Museum

As a local Hermanus resident and art dealer, to view this collection has always been on my bucket list. So i finally did a special 2 day trip to Stellenbosch with the main attraction being this museum. It did not disappoint! The Batiisse exhibition and the Pierneef Panels were juts part of all the highlights. The Ruperts have a keen eye and have collected the most astounding body of work. What a fortune that they are willing to share it with the public. Staff were all very friendly and informative. I will definitely return to the space to indulge in the creative expression that is on offer.

My wife and I went on a rainy weekday morning and were the only people there. I hope that it is more frequented over the weekend as it is a little gem. There are only 3 rooms, but each was filled with interesting South African Art. One was devoted to the art of Walter Battis, presumably a rotating exhibit, another to Pierneefs' Station Paintings (amazing!) and the third to a variety of mainly South African, but also a few European artists. Don't miss this on a trip to Stellenbosch.

Well worth the visit for a very small fee. All is great but loved the large Pierneef paintings. It was relaxed and cool during a hot summers day.

I came back to study the highly designed Pierneff paintings again. The construct of all of his paintings is very impressive as well as the mostly cool pallet. I am drawn to the Irma Stern paintings also because of the raw but powerful figures and still lifes. The white stucco barn like building is also a very impressive domicile for the paintings.
