I stayed at this hotel against my better judgement because a friend was coming to review and inspect the site for a large travel company. I thought it looked overpriced based on the reviews and similar properties and I (tripadvisor) was bang on.

The exterior tells it all. Worn and faded flags that look like they were strung up decades ago. The staff were reasonably courteous, but I was put on a floor that was either smoking or every day people decided to smoke inspite of it being a nonsmoking floor.

The paint in the room was peeling, the tiles chipped in the bathroom, a disgusting rag hung over the shower, an old outdated safe and a view of collapsing buildings and a small sad looking backyard. The wifi barely worked and was very slow (although at least free).

I gave an average instead of poor rating because inspite of it all the bed was very comfortable, the AC worked well, and the pool was quite nice. The gym was incredibly small, old, limited free weights, no cleaning products, and in a basement/dungeon.

I should also say that the manager of the hotel somehow completely forgot my friends were there to assess the hotel and just skipped the whole inspection - my review may be a bit unpleasant, but odds are they lost a whole lot of business on that mistake - just yet another indication of the underlying problems of the property...

The location is great, stay somewhere else close-by for hundreds of dollars less.

Room Tip: easy, don't stay here

Dear William C, thank you for choosing the Pestana hotel for your stay in Buenos Aires. Really sorry that your experience was not as nice as shown in most of the comments that often receive.
Unfortunately you stayed in the only smoking floor in the hotel due to high occupancy and lack of advice in your booking. I'm sorry about that.
I'm glad you enjoyed the bed, air conditioning, pool and friendliness of our staff.
We will work in your comments in order to improve our product and service.
Best regards.

His hotel is really well located in central Bu ends Airies, close to the Colon Theatre and with in walking distance of most t purist sites and some non tourist ones as well. Hotel itself is a little drab, rooms are relatively good size but with smallish bathrooms. We had a superior double, it could have done with a lick of paint and the drain was slightly smelly. They advertised an upgrade for USD 25 a night but we're not prepared to offer that to us as we were booked via a UK tour company and we were also refused One World points for the same reason. The staff h owever were very helpful and checked us in at 11.00 am against a 1400 hours of official check in and the breakfast was absolutely adequate.

Room Tip: We had an upper floor at the rear which was quiet during the evening and had no lift noise at all.

Excellent central location. Overall I would rate this at 3.5 rather than 4 stars, however our room was spacious and overlooked the very busy 9th.July Avenue, with no noise.
The room would benefit from a "brightening up". The bed was huge and comfortable and there was a flat screen TV. A good shower/bath, but the sink was overly-large, which restricted movement meaning only one person could be in at a time.
My wife said the indoor pool was fine, though it was in the basement.
Service at the bar was slow, and they could have been friendlier and a bit more helpful. No such issues with the reception staff.
Breakfast was buffet style- nothing exciting, but more than adequate.

Chosen by our tour company it is centrally situated and it seems within walking distance of many attractions in this great city.
The rooms are really spacious with wooden flooring and plenty of wardrobe space together with hangers!
We were lucky to have a front facing room, viewing the 9th July Avenue with surprisingly no noise from the 8 plus lanes of traffic below us.
There is a business desk together with chair so great for working on the computer is you need, however a lack of power points near by. Being from Europe we needed adaptors and had to unplug the dect phone on the desk to power up. There was one other in the room but it does need additional points for powering up phones etc.
No separate shower in the bathroom although the bath does have jets if you like this sort of thing. I would have preferred a separate shower. Housekeeping was just fine, they also have tea making facilities in the room which is a nice touch.
Breakfast is continental style and whilst edible is not great. I thought that the bread was simply awful and would not wish to pass comment on their coffee.
There is a bar area where the service was simply very slow although pleasant.
It is a hotel for visiting the city and not one for relaxing in but I guess 90% of their guests stay there for the same reason that we did.
Good position but average in the hotel stakes.
