Arriving two hours late at the Mendoza bus station after a spectacular journey over the Andes from Santiago, we were greeted by a driver who advised us he was to transport us to The Bohemia. After loading our bags into his car we were assured we would be at The Bohemia in no time. Observing that to open the passenger door of the car you had to push your fingers into a hole where the lock once was should have alerted us to that something was amiss here. After a short drive we arrived at a hotel and were shown our room by the receptionist. Unfortunately this was not The Bohemia. After some heated discussion with both the driver and the receptionist we insisted we were neither booked nor staying at this hotel. A call to Emir at The Bohemia resulted in a taxi being sent to pick us up and we eventually arrived at The Bohemia intact albeit somewhat stressed. Fellow travellers beware!
The Bohemia is in very quiet tree lined locale in Mendoza only a few blocks from downtown but nearer to another area filled with good restaurants and shops. Our room was very quiet and clean although the bathroom would benefit from an upgrade. On this note The Bohemia is undergoing renovations and will, when finished, be looking extremely chic. Breakfast is a simple self service repast with great coffee, cereals, toast ham and cheese available. Eager to make our stay in Mendoza as interesting as possible, Emir arranged a wonderful winery tour with the very personable Marcelo for us. The lunch at Ruca Malen was the highlight of the tour. Being on a mission to discover some family history in Mendoza the next day Maite from The Bohemia arranged the assistance of a very helpful English speaking guide, Javier Caruso to assist with my quest to obtain my Father’s birth certificate from 1921. Despite encountering officialdom at every stage, after twenty four hours we were presented with a copy of the birth certificate which named the street in which my Father was born. Javier insisted that it was no problem to take us there which was indeed a great experience. We loved Mendoza and The Bohemia with its very helpful and courteous staff and also for their recommendations to our great guides Marcelo and Javier. Thanks Emir and also Maite for making our stay with you a very memorable and enjoyable experience. Just one small improvement we suggest is better WiFi coverage for all the rooms.
