Great rooms, location, staff, breakfast- everything!! Near hot springs and only 2$ / person for that visit. Annoying that you have to wear a wristband during your stay!! Omelette made for breakfast with the ingredients you want!! Yir!!

Dear Beckski

We are very happy you had a good stay with us and enjoyed our food, had a good rest and relaxed in our Spa facilities. The thermal baths across the street are also a wonderful experience and very good for your health and well being.

I am really sorry about the wrist bands, it is a control device we must use as we have had people using the services with out paying for them. This way we guarantee our guests have an exclusive area for them and can enjoy their vacation fully.

I am glad you could enjoy the freshly made omelette of your choice at your Buffet breakfast!

Best wishes

I left Quito Saturday morning with the plan to spend Sunday walking around town, and perhaps visiting some of the waterfalls. I decided to stay in Sangay and it was a the perfect choice. I got to do a short work out in the gym and swim in the pool and then right afterwards, I got a wonderful Abhyanga massage in there spa which worked wonders for me. Ideal to rest and gather energies for my walks the next day. The room was really nice as well, comfy bed and just overall great relaxing time.

Highly recommend it, and definitely try the Chocolate Turron for desert.

Room Tip: If you want to get pampered ask for the VIP rooms.

This is an older 3 star hotel at best, marketing itself as a 5 star luxury boutique hotel. Be very careful with reviews and photos as there is a wide range of accommodation from 40 year old cabanas, an older travel lodge style building, to a newer 3 storey complex with "executive" suites.

We recently spent several nights in their best executive suites. They are marketing to international tourists not " repeat national customers. " as they are very over priced for both this country and the Banos area. The rather large property had very few guests. The suites are smaller, fairly well appointed rooms with balconies with a view of the waterfalls. There is no air ventilation / circulation so you will find you need to leave the balcony doors open for fresh air. Then the problem is you are directly across the street from thermal baths Virgen de Agua Santa ( the most popular thermal baths in town) . They open from 4:00 a:m to 11:00 p:m so the music, pedestrian, vehicular traffic, dogs and roosters, and currently new facility construction noise is significant.

A fairly extensive breakfast buffet of fruits, cereals, yogurt, bread rolls, and scrambled eggs was included. To ensure it is warm you need to go when it opens at 7:30. Instead of delivering items fresh as they are consumed and need to be replenished, an abundance is placed out at 7:30 and remains until the breakfast buffet closes at 10:30 a:m. Our earlier experience was markedly better than our later ones.

The Hotel is currently operating two restaurants one for 3 days a week the other for the remaining 4 days. This is problematic for trying to keep quality food items fresh. Ecuador fruit is sun ripened and usually bursting with flavour - somehow the buffet found the most tasteless fruit we have had here. One morning there was sour milk on the breakfast buffet. Having a steak dinner one evening in their Chozón Bar & Grill rustic bamboo hall our steak was overcooked, tough and flavourless, and the salsas, vegetables, salads, or the frying oil for the yucca resulted in our being ill the following day.

There is a small unheated outdoor pool, and a jacuzzi and turkish sauna.

While most of the hotel staff was friendly, it was very clear they operated within a very controlled, and rule based, environment. We asked to see their junior suites and were refused. We arrived in the restaurant for breakfast 10 minutes early and they insisted we leave and return later. Queries at the front desk were taken forward to a manager for an answer. We were unable to have the telephone answered on many occasions. Several customer services promises remain unfilled.

Our stay and accommodation was average at best - with some bumps - but we would not return as there are many much better options in the area for less money.

Dear Guest Global 3 Adventure

Thank you for your positive comments as they encourage us to keep going and become a better place where guests can be happy to return and feel they have made their best choice. We also appreciate the negative comments, because they are an opportunity to improve as they give us all the key information we need to do so. We have our Chef who is very energetic and professional and has worked hard on the Food & Beverage department so we can definitely improve our standards and have every guest leave satisfied and return promptly.

Thanks again for your time and valuable information.

The hotel has made incredible renovations, overall the service is really good, the food at the restaurant is good as well.

We stayed at the Sangay Plaza area, beautiful view, right in front of the waterfall but also to the thermal pools which assist lots of people, which means lots of traffic, car alarms woke us up constantly and the beeping of the cars, so I will suggest that please change the windows for those noice proof, at least to this side; also the beds are hard, they have this orthopedic type = rock. That's the only complains I have.

I will stay here again but as long as they change the windows.

Dear Ms. Yadira

On behalf of Sangay Spa Hotel I would like to apologize for any inconvenience in your stay with us. I want to assure you we are working towards improving and giving all of our guests the best quality service they deserve.

We do have planned to improve the glass situation at the rooms, but are now focused on warming and covering up the pool. We will do it as soon as possible.

The matresses are special for comfort at the Plaza, but you can also choose to stay at the Executive building or cabins if you prefer softer matresses.

You can also relax with our massages at Indra Ayurvedic Spa and enjoy a wonderful meal with our unique Chef´s touch.

Thank you for your time and feedback.

Have a wonderful night!

After a long day of travel we were looking to having an enjoyable stay at the Sangay. Firstly, the restaurant was great. The location was great. The price was good too. However:

1. The rooms were extremely dated. TVs from the 80's which did not work at all. Old warped beds.

2. Extremely noisy all night with the hot pool traffic next door.

3. The door handles were barely attached to the front door leaving us with a very uncomfortable feeling.

There are much better options in Banos.
