Good landing pad

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 Nov 2024
We checked into our property on the first day and learned that our $25/day "resort fees" covered "basic guest internet, DVD rentals, 10% select local area dining, self-parking, video and board game rentals, sports equipment, cultural activities." Of these amenities, basic (very) and self-parking were all that applied to our visit. We wanted to know about the 10% dining discount, so we were ushered to check in with the concierge, who let us know to receive those discounts, we would need to attend a 90 minute "presentation." We who own timeshare properties know what that means. Not only would we realize the dining discounts, but also be refunded the resort fees. My friend with whom I was traveling didn’t understand fully, but I was ready to just pay the $198 (there is tax on these resort fees!) and be done with it. However, we ended up attending what turned out to be right at 3 hours because the program they were revealing to us sounded intriguing. In the end, I was refunded the fees and we were able to have TWO meals discounted. You see, you had to choose from their limited list of participating restaurants, decide approximately how much you might spend, PREPAY for gift certificates to the restaurant IN $25 increments only and purchase them at the HILTON property! This was not a fluid process and I would NEVER do it again.
On top of the hassle with which we began our visit, the room was decently clean except for every drain in the room. The kitchenette sink was not draining, and there was well over an inch of water sitting in the bottom of the supposedly clean dishwasher! We asked for that to be addressed and it was, however, we hand-washed every dish we used. The drains all needed to be cleaned more thoroughly, as they ALL had a brown scum around them and the shower drain had a wad of hair hanging down/through it! This tells me the shower drain had not even been wiped over, let alone cleaned!
This property is apparently undergoing renovations, but our room was not one that had been addressed. Maybe that is why there was not as much attention paid to the detailed cleaning. However, the property was very convenient to the attractions/dining/activities of the Sedona area, the grounds were well-taken care of, pools and hot tubs were very nice, laundry facilities was clean and we felt safe staying at this property. It was a good landing pad for our hiking/ exploring/ sight-seeing adventures.

As usual, check-in was easy, but the concierge misrepresented the truth – in this instance insisting that we had new benefits that had to be activated by the agents at the sales center. Not only did we have no benefits that needed to be activated, but the sales agents also informed us that we are losing benefits. And the “one-hour” meeting lasted an hour and a half – with three different agents trying to sell us something. Worse than useless! So much for respecting “owners” who have spent many thousands of dollars for “membership.”

Despite my supposedly high level of membership, I was assigned to a room adjacent to the area where the resort deposits old refrigerators. On the other side of the unit was a parking lot and dumpster – frequented too early in the mornings buy the garbage truck. While the resort has a few rooms with excellent views, those rooms are rare!

Our unit was also just across the wall from the highway and associated noise. Not ideal. My membership supposedly allows me to choose a room (with no guarantee), but one has to know the property to wisely choose a room. My request for a “quiet location” was not sufficient.

Inside the unit was clean, comfortable, and functional – mostly. The sink faucet and bathroom faucet both need attention, and the kitchen needs more mixing and storage bowls.

The fireplace is for show only – It throws no heat – but the HVAC system is pleasantly quiet – proving that other resorts in the system could do as well.

Overall, a decent stay, but for the deceitful practices.

Room tip: Try to get rooms on the north side of the property.

The Hilton lived up to all of our expectations. We had a 1 bedroom king suite, there were 3 of us, and it was plenty of room. The room was comfortable and very clean! The bed and pillow were comfy, towels were large bath towels and fluffy! We got in around 12:30, our room was ready, we were able to check in early, and received water bottles for all us. I did not have any added resort fees and absolutely no push for the timeshare, it wasn't even mentioned at all during our stay. There were newspapers, coffee and water in the lobby. The text system is great, I texted in the morning that we needed extra towels and conditioner, and when we got back everything was there waiting. They texted every day events going on, checking in on the guest, and I was also able to check out via text. The hotel is about 10 minutes from the center of town,5 minutes from a market and restaurants, a quick car ride. Hiking trails are right there, no need to drive anywhere. I know there are plenty of them in Sedona, but you could get to one very easily. It rained one day, so the concierge was very knowledgeable and gave us a list of things to do for the day. The entire staff was very friendly and hospitable. I would definitely stay here again.

The resort itself was very convenient to hiking trails, dark skies stargazing, day trips to Cottonwood and more. Though further out of town than other resorts, it still is convenient to restaurants, shopping and more.

We were able to put in a request for a unit with a nice view and happy that this was fulfilled.

We attended the timeshare presentation in order to cancel the $200 resort fees (for what, we weren't really informed). We did not receive this refund until we called later and had this fixed. If we hadn't double-checked this, I doubt we would've received the refund. We expressed our disappointment about this in the phone call. The presentation itself was pleasant enough, with no pressure at all. We just didn't appreciate the need to attend, just to negate the resort fee. We knew going in that we weren't going to purchase more points.

My husband and I spent 3 nights here in a 1 bedroom Mesa King Suite. Check-in was very friendly and efficient, and although we were asked if we wanted to attend a vacation club meeting, we declined and there was no pressure at all. We were given information by the concierge about the area and some discounts at local restaurants. She offered to book us tours or activities, which we didn't need.
I was apprehensive after reading some of the poor reviews, particularly about the condition of the units, but we were pleasantly surprised. Our spacious unit was on the ground floor but there were still a few steps to go down to it. The upper units had a lot more stairs, and there are no elevators. Parking was close, and we were across the street from the main building in one of the many complexes onsite. Decor was attractive, the full kitchen was well stocked with equipment to cook and eat, the living area was comfortable and it was nice having the separate bedroom and a very spacious bathroom with soaking tub and nice shower. Everything was clean and overall well maintained. There was good lighting, AC, and wifi. We did have issues with the patio sliding door and screen sticking and we informed the desk that one of the shower glass panels was a bit wobbly. Housekeeping only comes every 4th day, but we had plenty of thick towels for the stay. The bed was most comfortable we've had a hotel in quite awhile and the pillows were good too. We could hear some noise from the guests above us, but nothing annoying. My understanding is that the non "Mesa" units might not be as nice, so I can't speak for them, but ours was great. If ever in Sedona again we would stay at this location, but would definitely request a suite with a view of the mountains. Our view from the patio was obstructed by other buildings and trees. Overall a great experience.

Room tip: If possible, ask for a room with a mountain and sunset view.

First… the GREAT. They greet you with “welcome home” and you instantly feel it! They texted and checked on us during our stay to see how things were going. The GOOD - the balcony and the view (although I wanted a better view, it was unavailable and not offered when booking). The BAD - no regular room service, you have to ask them to come get the trash and bring fresh towels. The UGLY - the thermostat will not go lower than 68 - and we like to sleep a little cooler than that, especially after hiking in 100 degree weather! Also, the bed wasn’t the most comfortable and the sheets seemed like a lesser quality than I would have expected… they were actually a little scratchy! For the price, I would not return.
