Our family of 4 was fortunate to stay with Eugene and Caroline for 2 nights. When booking our stay they were so helpful with ideas and answered many questions about the area promptly. They were just as gracious in person and made sure our stay was comfortable. The room had a huge bed and another bed plus trundle that was more than enough for 2 adults and 2 kids. The small fridge was perfect to keep our food cool. The bathroom was beautifully designed and decorated with plenty of hot water. The tub looked so inviting but the pool and surrounding area was so enjoyable that we didn't have time for much else. They had a common kitchen that we used and was very much appreciated.

At the end of the trip we forgot a pair of shoes behind. Eugene and Caroline is visiting the US and mailed them back to me. How awesome are they!

From the moment I topped the flower and jungle-lined rocky driveway, until my last descent 8 days later, my experience at Liquid Magic was absolutely and simply splendid.

Caroline and Eugene have created a retreat beautiful in design, flexibility and comfort. I was travelling solo and the accommodations were perfect. Yet the oasis will easily and comfortably accommodate a group of friends, good-sized families, and couples.

The setting is absolutely stunning. A jungle retreat with a peekaboo view of the Pacific Ocean. Throughout my stay I could easily hear the crashing waves only a kilometer below. The frequent soft barking of local howler monkeys and the constant call of eagles, toucans, with the varied jungle soundtrack routinely spoke over the waves.

Caroline enthusiastically offered local insight and pre-planning advice. Those gifts helped lead to a perfectly paced visit to the south central pacific coast of Costa Rica. Caroline arranged for an outstanding massage therapist to help me overcome the long flight and create the proper mindset for the week. Cali applied her therapy in the remarkable open-air bamboo massage and healing structure which Eugene designed and placed perfectly on the property.

Eugene works in the tree-fort like healing/massage house to provide Shen healing treatments. Although naive to the notion of such healing and a bit of a skeptic, I scheduled Eugene for a session of healing. As I was face down and completely relaxed, Eugene tangibly pulled negative energy from both my mind and body - all while never touching me. While difficult to describe here, the healing therapy was like an emotional message. Believe it. I was eager to schedule and then refueled by another session a few days later. If you are male or female and have any negative energy or emotional baggage you should give it a try. If you have none of that :-), then congratulations and just enjoy the relaxation demanded in the session.

Caroline's gift with plants and flowers is evident constantly yet subtly in your personal bamboo kitchen and dining porch, as well as on the soft pillow top you rest your head. Placed flowers are not at all necessary in pool area where you see growing tropical blossoms and toucans as you float in the bath water filled pool.

My sleeping cabana was obviously designed and built with simple clean luxury in mind. The big and quiet ceiling fan kept the tropical breeze moving throughout the night. I only viewed during daylight a small subset of the jungle population which bids you both goodnight, and prompts your eyes to open each morning.

Once your eyes are open, you wonder past the tiled pool to the dining porch where freshly brewed coffee and the best mix of chopped fresh papaya, watermelon, bananas and other tropical nectars await. What a way to start the day! I usually followed breakfast with a float in the pool to semi plan the flow of each warming sunny day.

The gorgeous coastal area centered between Dominical and Uvita is pointed mostly toward a younger surfing set. But for any age the area offers every possible beach or jungle activity and an explorable mix of tico/gringo/tourist-driven food and drinking. But the real enjoyment is found in one of the many family run ceviche/seafood kitchens and bars. Despite the reasonable reminders of caution against petty theft, the resident population is universally generous, friendly and engaging.

In all, my stay at Liquid Magic was nearly perfect (if nothing can be perfect) down to the subtle details. I share this glowing review with a selfish reluctance - a hope to keep it as a low-key secret - but Eugene, Caroline and their beautiful young child deserve to thrive in sharing their amazing jungle creation. I know I will soon plan my return. Hopefully at that time you have booked only one the sleeping cabanas, if both are booked I may just sleep in one of the hammocks swinging on your porch.

Pura Vida!

Room Tip: Either of the cabanas is a great choice. I loved the extended porch on the king cabana.

A truly lovely place to stay if you are in the Southern Zone.Eugene and Caroline are wonderful hosts, the rooms are roomy and elegant, the jungle real, the pool is at your doorstep.
Aside from the rooms there is an eating area and kitchen close to the pool. It's great for families and family reunions.
Eugene is a healer, he has healing hands that can unblock your energy and makes such a difference on so many levels. Write to them about his work. Even if you don't stay there it is worth a visit to have a treatment with Eugene.

Room Tip: They only have two rooms, each suited to the number of guests visiting.
