Sometimes there are unusual circumstances that come about during travel that provide an opportunity to really see what kind of service a hotel is capable of or willing to provide. Such circumstances arose with my booking at Jinetes de Osa, and they proved to exceed every possible expectation. When the worst kind of family emergency arose and I had to cancel a trip and all of the ancillary reservations related to it, Jinetes didn't hesitate to help. Carolina cancelled my hotel reservation, multiple flights, diving, and activity reservations, most of which I had pre-paid in full. On top of that, they extended me an open ended invitation to return whenever I could with a full credit for everything. It wasn't until a year later, that I could, but they delivered on their promise.

Upon arriving I was able to see a more typical type of customer service and was equally impressed. From the time my wife and I arrived Giovanni (the manager) took care of our every need. We stayed in the newer rooms at the top of the hill and like most guests felt the finish package, AC, and view justified the climb up to the top (we're in our mid-30's). We did a couple days of diving at Isla del Caño, went out on the night tour, and hiked in Corcovado National Park. The Osa Peninsula is truly one of the world's special places. All of the experiences were fantastic and really made our trip. The lodge also prepared a special Christmas dinner and went out of their way to make the holidays festive.

I wouldn't hesitate to return and can recommend Jinetes in every way.

Despite a rocky start to our visit to lovely drake bay - we were told that they didn't have availability for us for a five night stay, despite booking in July - they after some disagreement did find us a room....

What a relief.... This really is a lovely spot over looking the beach, with the sound of waves breaking at night....

The food is good and hearty.,,,and French toast was a welcome treat at breakfast....

The staff is friendly and very helpful.....

A big thank you to Ivan the diving instructor who is an excellent teacher and despite my trepidation helped me through my PADI open water course..... The diving is really excellent and we saw some amazing sea life...

To the owners sitting in the US.... The place needs an update, the beds are creaky and the bedding is thin and bordering on thread bear...rustic is fine (and what you would expect) but at some point you should re-invest a little....

Wonderful people are there to great you, with amazing food and a glorious view. My little room was at the very end, with no air con, but with two fans. Lets face it, it is going to be hot, you are in the tropics. I survived and had a great stay with the nicest people around. Another review said they didn't like hiking up a ton of stairs for a modern bungalow, and they rated it poorly. I would rather stay down close and not have AC. The sound of the ocean and the proximity to the restaurant is well worth it

This is the third lodge we stayed at during our Costa Rican trip. It is not a four star, by American standards. It is gauging by what we experienced elsewhere. Location, only steps from the beach. (Not for swimming as much as for atmosphere.) The common area has the dinning area and bar. A balcony, up above, is great for lounging and seeing the view. (It does need more, and better furniture.) The food was quite good, and the best we had. It was served family style, which encourages conversations with the other guests. The staff was excellent, being friendly and helpful. The rooms were adequate, with good cooling fans. No real view because of the screens, that did their jobs. It is also a short walk to the small village, which has a good store, and place to have a beer, or dinner. I suggest a trip there for any alcohol and soft drinks you want. It will be quite a savings. People from another lodge said their rooms had air conditioning, but ours was still better.

Room Tip: The standard room is just large enough to not be uncomfortable. The superior is much bigger, but filled with four beds.

It was the first week the hotel reopened after a break for the low season so it was slow in the hotel but we had a lovely stay. We had a room that was huge, had AC ( a must!) newly renovated and although a hike up, we had great views from the height looking onto the bay, with toucans and hummingbirds and monkeys visiting trees near the room frequently. The managers were great and recommended us good places to eat, especially the Marisqueria Margarita and Gringo Curt's. At the high tide access to the hotel is a bit wet but we did go in the rainy season! Breakfast was good. As mentioned by others the beer is a bit pricey! Drake Bay was like paradise, teeming with wildlife.

Room Tip: Rooms up the steps (180 of them!) good views, private, large and comfy
