On the recommendation of the Tourist Office, we went to visit the lakes in the mountains near Pas de la Casa on our way back to France. Although it was a very nice day in August , the end of the road at Grau Roig was nearly deserted. We asked the young lady by the rugged looking 4x4 bus about transport to the lakes and discovered that for 5 euros each she provides return transport to the restaurant by the lake and that the fee is refunded at the restaurant when dining there.
It sounded a good deal. We were the only passengers on the bus and enjoyed the 10 minute ride up the mountain. We had an excellent lunch (a very tasty and well presented salmon and avocado salad in my case) on the terrace overlooking superb scenery followed by a very enjoyable walk to a second nearby lake.
The transport and lunch was good value for money and combined with the scenery made an ideal afternoon out before the trek back to France.

So was with a group of friends for the weekend in Andorra and we decided on an adventure to go up one of the ski slopes to a well known local restaurant called Llac dels Pessons. Its about a 25 min drive up the mountains from Andorra de la Vella the capital. Its a pretty drive and you get to see a lot of scenery on the way as Andorra is quite spectacular as anyone who has visited will know. So to get to this restaurant you have 2 options.. walk up which will take about a half hour )i am told.. its a steep climb and for those who love walking and getting up and appetite sure its worth it. We opted for the 4x4 bus experience which leaves from the ski chair lift area below the mountain. Cost was 5euro each return which the restaurant refunds if you eat a la carte. Takes around 10 mins to drive up the steep mountainside and is quite exciting at times as you bob around quite close to some hairy drops off the side...
The restaurant is located next to a small lake and the scenery is quite breath taking.. was a cold day despite being summer so the outside terrace was closed. We had reserved a table for 6 and were promptly shown to it (i would recommend reserving). The food was local mountain fair a combination of warming hearty food and lighter salads etc.. The staff were efficient and friendly the food quick in arriving and quite tasty. The restaurant itself is very cosy in a log cabin type of design.. we all enjoyed our meal very much. If you want to do something different and get away from the shopping and into some real mountain air.. this is a must.

Beautifull traditional mountain chalet with a huge terrace.
Not so easy to find in thisbig skiing area and you have to be a reasonable good skier to get to this place.
The vue at the surrounding mountains is fantastic !
Outside you have a small selfservice : food to eat on the terrace .
Inside is the main restaurant but there is also a "private" section outside ( when weather permits ) reservation ONLY for individuals , and skischools !
Here tables have white napkins, stylish waiters and a champagne bar.
Food is delicious : chargrilled meats, stews, rice dihes, etc;
Higher price range.

Found this place a few years ago by mistake really ..... It's a true find!!!
It's on a red slope Cami de Pessons but very easy to get to if you follow the blue link under the back of the chairlift across the black to link to the red its not a hard slope so don't be put off!!

It has an amazing restaurant menu and you can sit outside on clear days with a view of the slopes, the food isn't cheap but fabulous! They have great wines too!! They also serve fast food great pizzas and burgers which are great value.

They also have champagne & oysters if it takes your fancy!! On a lovely deck there is a lot of sunbeds so you can chill in the sunshine and rest those ski legs .... My favourite place on the mountain!!! Can't wait till next year!!

Having skied for more than 35 years in most resorts in France and Italy, I have never come across this quality of food up on the mountain. A proper restaurant meal, rather than a cafeteria!
BUT, it fills up quickly and service might suffer a bit as a result, so plan your visit accordingly.
