A unique place with a homely atmosphere and delicious breakfast. It’s a little off the beaten track, which is very welcome, but still easy to get to with the smallest of hire cars in Winter. We found the staff to be super friendly and helpful. They were kind enough to give us a room upgrade as the place wasn’t full. Overall, one of the nicer places we stayed in Iceland with lots of little details that make it stand out.

Unfortunately, we didn’t sample the home-cooked dinner (due to budget constraints!) but heard good noises from other guests. There aren’t guest kitchen facilities but you do have a kettle in the room (we made noodles)...

We stayed here for 2 nights and our 4 year-old daughter enjoyed this stay very much. Hrifunes is probably the best place we stayed in our 7 days Iceland trip. We got the newer room (not attached to the main house) and absolutely love it. The room felt welcoming and everything was of quality.

We had dinner here and the friendly owner cooked us a nice hearty meal. She prepared the goose her husband hunted as appetizer and the main was served buffet style. The price was reasonable considered how expensive eating out in Iceland is and we were in a remote location. We shared the dining table with other guests during dinner and breakfast. The guests we chatted to were from Sweden and it was their 3rd visit in this guesthouse. Breakfast was very good and had a good selection of bread and spreads. I love the cheap Nordic caviar that you can get from the supermarket in a tube. The jam was homemade and super tasty. The smoke salmon was thickly cut and delicious.

We did not get to see the northern light here but we did see clear thin light movement from this guesthouse at night (either it was not as active or too cloudy?). It would be super awesome if this place has a hot tub :)

We will revisit when touring Iceland again and highly recommend this place to friends and family.

In our 7 day trip to Iceland, our stay at Hrifunes guesthouse was our favorite part! The location itself is located a bit off the main highway (route 1), and it is about a 6-7km drive to the guesthouse on a gravel road. We had no issues driving up in the winter and finding the location, even at night.

The hospitality of the owners and staff were truly exceptional! We stayed for two nights and in both those nights we stayed for the communal dinner. We absolutely loved the traditional Icelandic home cooking, and it was definitely the best meal we had during our whole trip!

The room itself was very modern, with all the amenities you could need. We stayed in one of the rooms out of the main house. They all had a little patio with a chair for sitting at night and enjoying the view, and maybe seeing some of the northern lights! The only downside (very minor) is that the wifi is very slow. I believe they stated that it was 3G. But this was not an issue for us, with such a beautiful view it was a much needed break from constant internet usage.

The highlight of our stay was definitely when we got to see the northern lights from right outside our window! It was a truly spectacular experience. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a truly special experience.

I spent 2 nights in the Hrifunes Guest House with my friends during a winter trip in Iceland. I didn't expect it to be so nice, quiete and comfortable. Rooms are super cute and elegant (nordic style) and extremely clean. Beds are comfy and we also found a boiler with a tea and infusion selection for the nights after dinner. Breakfast is served in the main house with big shared tables in a very familiar atmosphere. It's essential but nothing's missing. The location is isolated (about 30 minutes drive from Vik) and this can be good for those who wish to see the northern light. I would definitely go back and truly hope i will.

We loved our two night stay at Hrifunes Guesthouse! The room was clean and comfortable and the dinner was the best we had in Iceland. After a chilly day it was so nice to sit in front of the fire with a glass of wine and chat with other guests. We would highly recommend staying here.
