It was quite different from the photos online. The grass was over a foot high in the back and the place was cluttered with items inside and out. It felt like you were staying in someone's home and arrived unexpectedly. There was family laundry hanging by the sauna and in the common shower. One shared toilet for 12 and the shower is outside. The pool was not nearly as clean as the other pools we enjoyed in Iceland. The cost was outlandish for the quality.

Great stories from the very Icelandic owner, a sweet pup named "Magic" (English translation), beds and rooms crafted in traditional style like you see in the folk museums, a wonderful very warm pool and a hot hot tub. If you like rustic Icelandic you'll love this. I certainly did. If, on the other hand, you need a spacious room, find a few small items left by others in the shared outside shower bothersome, or want flawless kitchen and common rooms, you probably should find a hotel. This ain't it. In the off months, this place is run by a one man show, and while his heart is in it, he's just one person. Built by the owners grandfather which tells you both the kind of style and quality of the place but also its age. Don't get me wrong, it's well maintained, but if your spot the owner fixing a faucet or some such that's to be expected. Highly recommended for folks that enjoy an authentic stay.

The guesthouse appeared better from the photos in booking sites than it actually was. It is basically two small cottages compined with common dining area.

+ Hot Tub
+ Wlan
+ Dog

+/- Breakfast (very very basic)

- Noice from the common area (kitchen and living room) and bathroom is really bothersome if you're not the first one to wake up
- While room was clean the overall areas were not. The pool area and terrace for example had dirty dishes and half eaten tomato two days without anyone cleaning them up (the host and his assisstant spent most of their time sofa in the guesthouse watching tv, which did not give good impression)
- The only time the host was prompt was when he wanted our money...
- Lots of stuff laying around everywhere
- Dishwasher was broken. I also heard the staff saying that it broke day before even when reviews reveal that it has been broken for a while

Place would be really nice if the staff would make some effort for keeping it maintained & clean

We walked into the guesthouse at 10pm and discovered our booking had been trumped by a larger party. The owner did not contact us - we contacted him to discover this information. The larger party had a late reservation but, with more people, obviously they provided the owner with better earnings so he tossed us out in the cold - literally. We were three women left without a place to stay late at night in rural Iceland. There are so many wonderful hotels and guesthouses to stay at in Iceland where the owners are kind and accommodating. So why take a chance on this place?

We intended to stay at this guesthouse for one night. We had a booking through an online agent and it was confirmed. We arrived at the guesthouse on the evening of our booking to discover that our booking had been cancelled and instead the guesthouse had elected to take a booking from a larger party. We spent 30 minutes wandering around the property trying to locate a reception, owner or anyone to answer our queries. We found no one. We then attempted to phone the guesthouse and were twice disconnected. When we finally managed to get in touch with the owner we were informed that the booking had been cancelled and he had tried to 'contact us all day', we were then disconnected and tried calling three more times to no avail. We had no missed calls and received no emails informing us of this and doubt the sincerity of the owners claim he had been contacting us all day. By this stage it was 9.30, we were in rural Iceland and it was raining with nowhere to stay. We returned to the Geysir Hotel where there was free wifi and tried to address the situation. This was challenging as much of the accommodation is guesthouses tucked away and therefore do not have 24hour reception. We ended up finding accommodation at 11 and paid more than we wanted to. I would not recommend this guesthouse as apparently a booking means nothing.
