The Inn at Carnall Hall is a genuinely charming hotel on the campus of the University of Arkansas, in an historic building which was actually condemned when I was a student (much like Old Main). It is in the heart of everything, particularly if you have reason to be on campus, with spacious well-appointed rooms, a friendly bar, historic photos, cozy lounges, and just about everything anyone could want short of a Ritz Carlton (including Ella's, a nice though not opulent restaurant).
Unfortunately, the place is about to get a makeover. This is good in that the hotel opened in 2003, and everything needs sprucing up after a while; but not so good in that the plans call for a more modern feel -- similar to the Grand Hyatt in New York -- and I fear that some of the historic feel may be lost, which would be a great shame.
In any case, one last key point. Rose Miller was the manager on duty most of the time I was there, and she was simply fantastic. It would be hard to top her friendliness or attention to impeccable service (if her career goals are in hospitality, perhaps there's one of the Ritz Carltons in her future). So consider this my expression of gratitude to Rose, one of the best reasons I can think of to pick the Inn at Carnall Hall. Say hello to her for me.More
