“Absolutely cannot fault.”
Reviewed 17 February 2018 for a stay in February 2018

I booked a last minute short break for my partner and I at The Forge, hoping for a relaxing country retreat without being out-in-the-sticks and honestly we could not be more pleased with our stay. The property is nestled in the centre of the very pretty village and only ~5 mins drive to essential shops (pharmacy/ co-op/ petrol station/ café) and ~3 mins to protected moorland. The Forge is extremely spacious but cosy and fitted with all the amenities needed; no problems with cleanliness, everything was spotless. Carol and Andrew were the perfect hosts without being overbearing, genuinely lovely people.

The only thing I will note is that large vehicles might struggle with finding suitable parking in the village, however the local bus manages to manoeuvre fine (mostly at speed).

We would definitely recommend staying here and plan to return ourselves in the near future!

My wife and self stayed at The Forge for 3 weeks and after a very hectic year were in need of a good relaxing break, the choice could not have been better, with excellent accommodation and Carol and Andrew being the perfect host seeing to every detail so that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, so when next we need another break we know where to come.

“Perfect weekend stay”
Reviewed 9 September 2017 for a stay in August 2017

Perfect weekend stay in a very comfortable cottage. Very clean, well equipped kitchen, tea & biscuits on arrival. Carol and Andrew the owners were very keen to make sure that our stay was a pleasant one with several suggestions for walks and things to do. Buckland Monachorum is a small village on the edge of Dartmoor and we were able to walk from the cottage to The Garden House Gardens. We also visited Buckland Abbey and had some lovely walks on the moors. The pub in the village is almost opposite the cottage and serves lovely food. Plenty of things to do without driving too far. We hope to return!

“A little bit of paradise!”
Reviewed 30 August 2017 for a stay in August 2017

The perfect place to unwind. Great location for access to many wonderful walks with a lovely garden in which to sit and relax. Carol and Andrew were perfect hosts, near enough to help whenever needed while at the same time being respectful of our privacy. The Lodge is beautifully appointed, comfy sofas, everything you need in the kitchen and the most comfortable bed to ensure a good night's sleep. The welcome we received could not have been better. Milk, tea and coffee in the kitchen on arrival was very welcome.
We are already planning a return visit.
Thank you Carol and Andrew for taking the care and thought to provide such a wonderful home from home in a beautiful part of the country.

“Perfect”
Reviewed 27 August 2017 for a stay in August 2017

Our stay in the Forge exceeded our expectations as we were looking for a quiet retreat to recharge our batteries. There are many things to do and see in this idyllic location and we felt as if we were miles away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The Forge was well presented, equipped and tastefully decorated, with everything one could possibly need for their stay. We didn't want to leave the lovely sanctuary provided by our welcoming hosts, Carol and Andrew.
