Stayed here for the weekend whilst attending an event at the ICBP (falconry centre). Right in the centre of Newent, the hotel is an old coach house. The reception isn't manned all the time, but a friendly member of staff, soon showed us to our room. The bedroom and bathroom were quite spacious and clean, although décor was a little tired. The bed was comfortable, there was complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits plus shampoo, shower gel etc. The room overlooked the main road so was noisy late at night and early the following morning. Wi-Fi connection was a bit hit and miss and parking was very tight, through the archway, to the car park. Bit of a mix-up with times for breakfast, but enjoyed full English breakfast, plus cereals and fruit juice.

Room was large and adequate. Enough sachets of drinks left which was great. Hosts friendly. No evening meal as booked as they don't cook on a Monday! Hosts very friendly. Pub needed updating.
Bed comfortable but couldn't sleep because of noise!

Didn't realise there was a sorting office next door so woken up at 5.30 am!

We made a stop at the George Hotel for dinner.
The menu may have been small but the food was excellent. My husband and I had scampi to start with, which was the best we had ever had. Our main was chicken breast in garlic, mashed potato, carrots and runner beans with a light gravy/sauce. The meal was huge, well presented and at £8.25 for the main dish it was excellent value.
The chef came out personally to bring us our food, who has not been there long but is doing a great job with the food.

I don't understand how the owners of such an old hotel could ruin it by wallpapering in wood chip, ceilings also!!
Clearly their is a lot of work to be done to this hotel; which is hidden under the wood chip!
Apart from this: The beds are very comfortable , Carpets clean.
Tap dripped all night, TV close to the bed so cant see it clearly whilst lying in bed. Hotel on the main road so traffic is very noisy.
Didn't get to example the breakfast as we went downstair 25 minutes too early and the hotel was empty; apart from 2 cleaners who only spoke limited English.

Well it was an unforgettable experience for 3 nights, spiders, moths, cobwebs, dripping hot tap, drawers with no handles, towels all ripped and torn, unsightly brown splashes down walls, linen that had never seen an iron. I have to add though it was the only place to stay near my son and wife, which, had it have been brought up to scratch would have made a fortune a real shame for a charming place. I have found out the people are trying to sell it,so they have probably lost all heart but it wouldn't take too much money to at least clean it up, and find the staff who can clean,as they are really the culprits who get paid to do it and never get checked on. A real, real shame.

Room Tip: All very shabby and partially cleaned, room 4 with en suite okay.
