Lovely friendly greeting as we arrived at this beautiful period hotel.
Our room, on the first floor, overlooked Muirfield golf course. No tea/coffee facilities within the room but we were asked if we'd like this sent to our room.
Spacious bathroom.
Dinner in the formal restaurant was exquisite. I had halibut and my husband opted for the chicken dish followed by a cheese board. Attention to detail and service was superb.
Breakfast, however, was a huge disappointment. After being asked to 'find a table', we waited 20 minutes before a waiter asked if anyone had offered us tea/ coffee (which they hadn't). We then waited another 10 minutes for it to arrive. A further 20 minute wait for our cooked breakfast - which was disappointing. My scrambled egg was unevenly cooked and the smoked salmon looked like it was thrown onto the plate, like an afterthought. The difference in our dining experience, from dinner to breakfast was incredible.
What was even more irritating was the fact that two young men who arrived 15 minutes after us, were served long before us. Quite simply, I think we were forgotten (and no guest likes to experience this).
Such as shame and spoiled or first visit to this beautiful hotel.

Dear Guest

Thank you for choosing to stay at Greywalls and I am happy to read that you enjoyed the room and dinner. I am sorry for the shortfalls with breakfast. It was a busy breakfast and we would always try to look after guests in the order they arrive. Apologies that this was not the case. I have spoken to our Chef about your breakfast and apologies the standard of your Salmon and eggs fell short. I do hope you return and give us the opportunity to ensure all aspects of your stay are superb.

Kind regards

Duncan Fraser

We spent our 41st wedding anniversary at this lovely country house hotel. Service was discreet and excellent. We had a cream tea which was really nice with Roux jam; the very best raspberry jam we’ve tasted. Breakfast was first class and served in a room overlooking Muirfield Golf course.
We had a large cottage room (17) which overlooked the garden and was warm and comfortable, the lovely bathroom had underfloor heating and was really cosy.
A place full of history.
A lovely experience and we will definitely be back.

I have never enjoyed an overnight like I have at Greywalls. The service is as discreet as you want it to be and everyone that we were in contact with were superb. And staff had that great knack of knowing how much attention you want or didn’t want.
The hotel has an arts and crafts charm that is luxurious and hugs you like a 15 tog quilt!
I could go on about it’s fabulousness and all I can say is save up and treat yourself you’ll not be disappointed. We are saving for our next visit and hope it will be for more than one night!

Dear Guest

Thank you for your delightful review and very pleased to read that you enjoyed staying in the 'Kings Loo'. It is a very peaceful room and Ernie Els stayed there in 2002 when he one the Open, so might bring you luck. Look forward to your return.

The service was perfect, friendly and attentive but not overbearing. We loved the history of the house and the furnishing which enhanced this Lutyens house. The gardens were lovely even though it was February. Our room had a view of the gardens at the back which looked magical in the morning after light snow. Great bathroom and we loved the turn down service. Very comfy beds and pillows. The breakfasts were delicious and relaxed. Loved the haggis in the Scottish breakfast. The smoked salmon and scrambled egg went down a treat. The evening meals were very good. We can recommend the Atlantic sole and the duck. The John Dorey is recommended as a starter. All in the most beautiful setting. Very relaxing.

We come here for our wedding anniversary dinner every year and it never disappoints.
Food is exceptional and staff are wonderful.
Take time to have a stroll round the gardens and see how much care and attention goes into them.
