Marvellous place, full of charm and unique goods. Found a Harris Tweed scarf, a length of vintage tartan, an authentic silver pin, and still longing for the sweet wool child's coat as a gift for cousin's grandchildren...

A long drive to this beach but it was worth it, stunning and we had it to ourselves. Large parking area, toilets and shower facilities which were an unexpected although pleasant surprise.

A lovely quiet and remote beach (like most of Harris!) - superb for a picnic after our ramble up Tiorga Mor nearby.

We stayed on Harris for a week but Hushinish was only about 3 miles away from our cottage. I can understand the level of effort getting to this beach if you were staying elsewhere on Lewis and Harris.
That being said, the hike is worth it. The road getting there is a mixture of hairpin bends, blind summits (sometimes both at the same time) alongside a multitude of winding roads and obstructions by way of sheep and cattle.
When you're approaching the beach, there is a gang of highland cattle almost guarding access to the beach. We had to stop the vehicle and let them amble down the side of the car and pray their horns didn't hit the car.
Besides that, the beach is beautiful. It is completely unspoilt and pristine and hearing the waves gently crash on a sunny day when there aren't many people there, is one of the most peaceful experiences.

The best things in life don't come easily: Huisinis Beach is no exception. If you are uncomfortable driving on single-track roads with passing places, think twice before you drive here, as unlike many other single-track roads on Harris, this is narrow, has crests and bends with restricted visibility, and is currently being used by heavy vehicles supporting construction work. If you are still confident, read on.

The beach comprises pristine white sands between two headlands: the first is crowned by the road, whilst the second supports the township of Huisinis. There is a motor-caravan parking area just before the descent to the beach, where I believe electrical connections are available. The car parks bracketing the new husinis gateway centre (with information, public toilets and bins for litter and recyclables) offer a few spaces, and there are three more opposite the gateway building. Vehicular traffic beyond that point is for residents of Huisinis and access to boatmen using the pier. Moreover, visitors' vehicles have, in the past, inflicted significant damage on the fragile machair: please don't add your name to that list.

The road to and from Huisinis affords frequent opportunities to glimpse Golden Eagles (although very few to stop and observe them); additionally, White-tailed Eagles are seen frequently over the sea between Huisinis and the island of Scarp.
