I had an amazing time at the Five Volcanoes. The first thing I noticed was the dramatic skyline comprising the 5 volcanoes.

The accommodation was clean, comfortable and luxurious. I really liked the addition of the hot water bottles every evening.

More than anything, I was made to feel very special by the friendly and welcoming staff.

During my stay, I went to see the gorillas and monkeys. For each of these trips, the team decked me out in complementary gators. Upon my return each time, my boots were even cleaned for me!

A highly recommended experience made possible by my great tour guide Isaac Karenzi.

Room Tip: The presidential suite is highly recommended.

As the price for meeting the gorillas in Volcano National Park goes up (now $1500 per person) this charming hotel offers comfort and touches of luxury without breaking the bank. The owner is a former guide so he knows that the first thing you need after a gorilla trek is a shower - most rooms have a double shower!, and to get your boots cleaned which the staff enthusiastically offers to manage for you. Next, you can enjoy the swimming pool and massage, the spacious restaurant with generous portions, or chill out in the beautiful gardens or recount your day by the fire pit.

We had a magical overnight stay in the VIP Cottage - a home away from home. Tastefully decorated with all the amenities. From the lounge and verandah there were spectacular views of Sabinyo Volcano and all around us bird song in the beautiful gardens. Sipping champagne in the swing seat in the midst of this was something else. The gardens are really special and create a very private haven even though the Hotel sits right on the Kinigi Road. We had a leisurely lunch in the dining room watching the weavers create their magic and really appreciated the menu, especially the vegetarian options. Views were spectacular. Dinner was served in the cottage in our dining room which was very special. Congratulations to the Chef - wonderful food. The service was excellent, friendly, unassuming and nothing was too much trouble. Attention to detail is a specialty. We especially loved the hot water bottles delivered to our Cottage as the temperature dropped in the evening. This was a great place to celebrate our wedding anniversary with friends. We were really looked after. Our package was full board and lodging.

Wonderful service, incredibly kind and attentive, they even provide gators before you leave for your hiking trips which is invaluable given the mud you walk through BUT food was mediocre considering the price of the hotel, and unclear which meals and beverages were included in the inclusive price
