The hotel is in a quiet location away from traffic. Around there are several small temples. The rooms are clean, comfortable and well furnished. Breakfast (not exciting) is served on a terrace with a view. It also has a courtyard garden with bar. Free wifi.

Thank you to all the previous TA reviewers who underlined the point about booking a Superior room. I initially booked a standard room and was fortunate enough to be able to upgrade my booking on arrival for US$22 per night. I was shown to my standard accommodation upon arrival, and immediately asked if they had other rooms available. I can honestly say that $22 is a very small price to pay for the leap in standard, and not to have the smell of damp in your nostrils all night long. The area to the rear of the Thurizza hotel is where the local community live and is well worth a look to see how they live and meet the very friendly locals who will be keen to say "hello" or "Mingalabar" as you pass by.
Staying at this hotel was a 4 star experience for me.

Charming older hotel, reminds me of Spanish ranch style. The staff were always helpful and pleasant.
The room with a King size bed was a bit cramped. Bathroom was your basic shower set up. The one design bonus is the bathroom is a bit roomy, and has the shower step down. The toilet was far away from the showering area. Big bonus considering a lot of the value hotels have the toilet in the direct line of fire from the shower. Creating an unpleasant toilet enviroment with 90 degree heat and high humidity.
The 4th/3rd four patio area had great views for breakfast or sunset drink.

Side note. The company that bought this hotel has really really nice top end hotels. In Npagali we stayed at next to the Jade Marina resort. My girlfriend and I toured the grounds of the hotel. It was beautiful, and I suspect they will renovate the Thurizza to a higher standard in the future.

Room Tip: Great views with a quiet atmosphere a few blocks from the hustle and bustle.

Disappointing. On first impressions it appears a rather attractive hotel. Some nice architectural features with a sunny roof terrace that looked ripe for a sunset drink (if you weren't at the temples!). However, our standard room was downstairs and felt like it was in a basement. Stained curtains and a bad damp smell. The room itself was clean, the bathroom very dated but it could just do with some modernisation. The manager was friendly enough but his staff appeared quite sulky. Good location but lets get a make-over!

Room Tip: superior rooms ARE far superior!

How you rate this hotel will depend on which type of room you book. If you stay in the higher category you will love this hotel, if you stay in the standard category you will hate it. i was lucky and stayed in the better room which was large, clean, comfortable. My sister stayed in a single standard room which had a really bad smell, damp issues and was not very pleasant.

The staff are friendly and helpful but the level of English varies widely between staff members. A 5 minute walk down a dirt road to the main area with all the restaurants and shops but location is very quiet and peaceful.

Breakfast on the roof was nice as you can see some of the smaller temples and balloons in the distance early in the morning. Choice was limited.

Room Tip: Avoid the standard rooms at all cost.
