This was one of the most magical and special experiences of my life. The tents have to be seen to be believed, the setting is beautiful, the service and food could not have been better - all topped off by sharing a holiday with friendly elephants!

One of the great risks of finally staying somewhere you have dreamed of staying is that the reality will disappoint. Fear not - the Tented Camp is actually more amazing, more wonderful, more mysterious and more peaceful than I had hoped. The tents are out of this world - one truly feels like one is in another time and place, albeit in the lap of unbridled luxury. We could have sat on our deck and watched the Ruak River flow by for hours. The elephant adventure is fabulous, and the mahuts are great. The food at the hotel is exquisite, with great variety and veggie options. The open air, jungle spa is first rate, and listening to jungle sounds while getting a treatment is magical. The only caveat - it is not easy to get around (hilly trails and very spread out) and is thus not accessible for the physically challenged. Worth every penny of the splurge.

Room tip: They are all great - we had tent 3 and loved the view, and were happy to be closer to the restaurant.

To clear up a (our) misconception up-front: this is not a far away, isolated place in the middle of the jungle like you experience on an African luxury safari, but a well- constructed resort "next door"!
Yes, you do take a (less than 10min) narrow-boar ride up the river from the next town, but it also only takes 5min by car on a narrow road to be back in civilization.
Yes, you are in the middle of bamboos overlooking the (cultivated) fields of the Golden Triangle below, but this is not a jungle, but a small hill-side forest.
Yes, you do stay in a large tent, but they are situated on huge wooden platforms, anchored with steel-beams and iron-ropes.
So it is a little bit of Disney-make-belief in Thailand, and maybe that is why the nearly all American clientele is so swooning about this resort.
It is, however, a luxurious and incredibly service oriented experience. The tents are furnished with all modern comfort, including WiFi, although the chairs could be a bit more comfortable to sit in and the lighting a bit stronger for reading. The balcony is huge, the outdoor shower wonderful, but for the double-flap zipper-"doors".
The staff tries to read your every wish, knows your name and will pamper you all around. Getting around can be a challenge for the less mobile ones, as the paths are uneven, sometimes a bit steep and - obviously - dark at night (you are in a forest!). The view from the restaurant is stunning, the Elephant Bar a nice retreat (would be even nicer if it also opens AFTER dinner), the massages wonderful and the food selection and quality excellent.
Be prepared to get (very) wet during your elephant ride and keep your mouth shut when he/she blows a trunk-full of river water on your head! The Golden Triangle and Burma excursion are overly touristy and more suited for novices to Asia.
So, yes - do go and visit for three or four days, be prepared to be pampered (you do pay for it), but also have a realistic expectation on where you will be.

Dear MJN,

Greetings from the Tented Camp and thank you for taking the time and reviewing your experience with us here in northern Thailand.

We're delighted that you enjoyed your overall stay with us and I'm pleased that we managed to pamper you throughout, but I would like to apologise if we had in any way contributed in creating a misconception of our location to you prior to your arrival. While situated within the cusp of the Golden Triangle area and fairly close to the local town, but I'm sure you will agree that the location does manage to provide the perfect escape from the rest of the world with its enchanting scenery of the river and the surrounding mountains.

Once again thank you for choosing to stay with us.

Kind regards,

Before I book the hotel I was plan on a trip with my colleague to Chiang Rai however my mom really want to visit this place due to elephant experience. So I booked for 3 days 2 night and it' were an incredible stay. We really enjoy our times there and don’t want to leave.

The hotel are very unique there are locate in the beautiful jungle of Thailand.
The hotel is all inclusive which include elephant mahout experiencer, spa, excursion and food (in room dining are included depend on yours like). every meals I had are very well cook and tasteful. There are only one restaurant for breakfast lunch and dinner. There are varieties of asian food (thai and Burmes) and international. Special request food also available.

There are Burma bars which locate in another end of the main facilities. This is the place where you can enjoy drinks and sunset. The spa are very nice and locate away from the tent camp and other facilities which give you a time to enjoy your private treatment with the nature sound. Room treatment also available for free.

The Tented are well organize and in good condition with very nice decorate. There are outdoor shower, tub, air con and heater in the tent. Also min bar are all free and 2 time house keeping.

Room tip: any room are good but perhaps if you don't want to walk far from the main facilities may be not further than TENT 4

Only occasionally do travel experiences rise to the level of 'Life Experiences', and for me the Tented Camp did just that. This is not a traditional 'luxury' resort, and if that is what you are looking for this will not be your style. Rather being at the tented camp feels like a return to the days of late 19th century exploration (with an incredible local staff that makes the experience effortless and full of flavor). The elephants are the center of the show, but the lodgings and common buildings, the unbelievable food, the incredible employees, and the scenery make this an immersive experience. For the kind of person that finds this kind of adventure appealing, there should be no hesitation about making this trip a priority. Finally, while all of the staff and management deserve recognition, my wife and I feel that the incredible head Mahout (elephant manager), Seng, had a particularly positive influence on our holiday.

Dear Scottbconner,

Warm greetings from the Golden Triangle and thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us.

I'm very pleased that you enjoyed your somewhat unconventional and sui generis experience with us at the Camp. Your summary perfectly construes what it is we offer here at the Tented Camp and by mentioning the elephants and the work done by Seng and our mahouts, highlights the core attraction at the Camp.

We sincerely hope to have the pleasure of your company once again and look forward to welcoming you back to our little jewel in the jungle in northern Thailand.

Kind regards,
