Nakamanda was a 'saviour' for our holiday. There was an unusual storm (according to locals) when we arrived and it poured like crazy for 3 out of the 4 days we were in Krabi. On top of that, we went during the low season which meant many of the regular haunts were closed.

The resort is beautiful. We stayed in the Sala Villa and it gave us a lot of privacy. Ask for the Sala Villas that are not on the ground floor for more privacy. But be prepared to walk the stairs. Good shower, his & hers bathroom sinks & wardrobe. Bed was a little bit on the hard side, but other than that, we had a good sleep.

The entire resort is built on a hill side, hence there are loads of steps. It's not a great place for children & old people - many stairs and sharp edges.

There isn't much of a beach. During high tide, the water comes right up to the edge of the resort. During low tide, you can walk out about 500m or so and you can have some fun with hermit crabs ad walk to another beach. There are also loads of rocks.

The pool is lovely. We spent a lot of time in the pool despite the rain and had a good time. On our last day it was really sunny and the pool & its surrounding became an even nicer place to lounge and relax. At night, you can sit on the deck and enjoy the cool night breeze. Beautiful!

The restaurant called The Kitchen is great. Good food at very affordable prices - not typical hotel prices. So naturally we ate a lot. This applies to room services as well.

The staff throughout the hotel were very friendly and helpful. Sid, the driver is the man to take you places. BTW, the hotel transportation costs are also very reasonable especially if you're traveling with a group (there were four couples in our group).

Personally, I didn't try the spa but my friends did and they enjoyed it. The prices are again very reasonable - not typical hotel prices.

So all-in-all, despite the freak storm, we had a great time, thanks to this wonderful resort.

One can breathe the clean crisp air when one lands at Krabi airport. It is a scenic 45 minute drive to the hotel at Klong Muang beach which goes through countryside.

Nakamanda is a quiet place, serene and indolent and seriously far from the madding crowd. We lived in the Sala Villa which had a fantastic view of the sea. The hotel staff is very courteous and ever smiling. Wi-fi access is free and has a good speed. The restaurant has a superb view of the sea and open out on to the beach. The swimming pool is large and not too deep. The hotel is clean and well maintained. The rooms are fairly large with clean bathrooms and a well stocked mini-bar. The hotel offers a limited number of channels on the television but also has a library of movie DVDs which one can borrow. The Gallery - the hotel shop has some interesting hand picked souvenirs to sell.

There are some interesting eating places just outside the hotel - one of them is Freddy and Juergen's restaurant which is just left of the gate on the opposite side of the road. We had a couple of meals with Juergen who has a small thrifty kitchen and great tasting food. A few meters down the road is Paddy's Irish Pub which has a European menu, a large screen which shows football matches, beer on the fountain and also a pool table. Mother's House is a thai restaurant just outside to the left of the hotel who have a couple of friendly dogs who are really happy to welcome visitors with laughing mouths and wagging tails.

Most of the hotel staff have nicknames which are also printed on their badges - some quaint ones were "Punch", "Apple". "Lik". All three of them are warm and friendly people.

We had a wonderfully relaxed time at Nakamanda - not a single incident which left a bad taste in our mouth. I don't think I would revisit that part of Thailand again but would definitely recommend anyone visiting Krabi to consider Nakamanda very positively.

Very prompt and helpful services. Superb landscaping, but may not friendly to people who have difficulties with steps . Beach is close to picture advertised during high tides. Breakfast is great with delicious breads and pastries . Spa is also wonderful .

We went there in October and with the exception of bad weather (it was raining almost every day), we loved it in every way. Excellent service, clean and lovely rooms with a nice sense of privacy. All in all, a great place for romantic holidays.

As usual We used Trip Advisor reviewer in order to choose this resort and stayed for nine nights in mid-June, which in Krabi is the start of the low / rainy season. We were one of very few other guests in the resort, which was nice and made it very private although I would not have liked to be at the resort when it is really busy as I think it would be a bit stretched and over crowded. Our Sala Villa was 2202 and had excellent views over the beach from the veranda / day bed.
I would agree with other reviewers that the resort is due to TLC although the condition was generally very good and after a couple of days you just love the resort without being too critical.
What was good?:
The staff are very friendly and attentive although some times too attentive with food dishes being whipped away straight away and the next course served immediately after the previous course. English was OK and we never had any problem getting what we asked for.
Airport transfer [800 Baht’s] excellent met by limo and given cold water and cool towel to refresh while taking the 40-minute transfer.
The food was excellent for both quality and cost. However due to the season, all of the bars /restaurants immediately outside of the resort were closed and after a couple of days of the same menu at the resort we had to get out. We walked along the beach to the Sheraton hotel and walked trough to the main road where we found the Terrace Restaurant which is both excellent quality and cheap [probably the best duck red curry I have ever eaten!] also worth a mention is the Jazz bar that is close by and run by Mr. Miaggi from karate kid [or at least he is a lookalike]
Breakfast is a la carte and you can have it delivered to your room for no additional cost and enjoy it on your veranda, which is excellent.
The pool is large and clean and the water is great to cool down in
The spa is well worth a visit and the Nakamanda massage is the best all body sports massage I have ever had
Take a speed boat trip to Ko Phi Phi [2000 baht’s each]
Krabi street market on the weekend [1200 baht’s round trip]
Not so good?
The beach is poor but we knew that before we went, but by walking to the left a few yards, there is a wide, sandy beach that stretches all of the way to The Sheraton.
Internet connection was very poor, the reliability and strength of the signal made it impossible to get any connection at all at times.
Air con is very noisy.
Building noise from the rebuilding of the resort next door although spasmodic and not too loud.

Finally thanks to Rit who dealt with a mini crisis we had promptly, politely and with a smile, thanks again

Room tip: go for 2nd floor with sea view
