Owner description: Past Strawberry Canyon is the 34-acre Botanical Garden, which holds about 13,000 species of plants. The species are organized according to regions of the world, and the garden has a great collection of native Californian plants. Bring a picnic basket and some money for the bookstore and admission (closed the first Tuesday of each month and free on the first Thursday of each month). Be sure to check out the conservatory (for tropical plants) and the Chinese medicinal herb garden. The garden is open from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. every day of the year except the first Tuesday of each month, Thanksgiving Day, December 24 and 25, December 31, January 1, and Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Tours are also available on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

This is one of two botanical gardens in Berkeley hills - the other being in nearby Tilden Regional Park. We've enjoyed visiting both, though the University garden is more varied with many beautiful and exotic plants.

We went to SF to escape the cold here in MN. The gardens are very pretty, with many walking trails. My favorite part was the pond w/the newts. It was mating season and you could see their eggs under the water.

Don't forget to pay for parking. If the weather is cold, the botanical garden is a good place to go, sheltered from the winds.

located on the Berkeley campus offers a beautiful view of the skyline and a diverse amount flora and fauna. If you like a good hike park and walk up the hill it's quite the workout but worth it!

I love this garden, tucked into the hillside above UC Berkeley's campus. Beautiful grounds to stroll around, and just heaven on a nice day. Usually there are few other visitors. Great place to take visiting relatives, young children, or to just enjoy the beauty yourself.
