“Authentic experience!”
Reviewed 7 February 2012

We wanted to get away from San Diego, and this was the perfect spot! Simple, comfortable, roomy cottages that seemed really private. Great setting! 10 min of drive from Calistoga that puts you in a relaxed mood while you are driving towards the ranch...
Warm and friendly owners. Great, hearty breakfasts. I even got to feed carrots to their animals! Fun, fun, fun!!!
We loved staying at the ranch! A fun gateway!!!
Highly recommended if you want privacy, tranquility, authentic experience...
Enjoy your stay!

We were delighted! This is a lovely retreat, we felt as if the whole grand lodge was ours. There are 11 high quality teas 24h available in the breakfast room, with hot water dispenser. Decorated with seasonal theme, the huge fire place draws your attention, an inviting place to read a book. Breakfast was fabulous: fruit plate with pine apple, orange, banana, blueberries, raspberries, grapes, cantilope, strawberries, guavas, pear. Homemade persimmon bread, home made preserves (plum, guava). Delicious omelette/scrambled eggs, pancakes, hashbrowns with squash. Toast & cereals are also there. This is not a 5 hotel star resort by any means, but a genuine authentic place to spend time relaxing, hiking and comtemplating. You'll see the milky way on a cloud-free night and it is extremely quiet out here - except for the rooster in the morning.
John and Suzanne are great hosts. This place is highly recommended and much preferred over cookie cutter chains.

Room Tip: We stayed upstairs in the main lodge

I have had such sweet times at Mountain Home Ranch. I go there for residential learning retreats, and it is only due to the care and serenity of the place that I have the energy to do the hard work involved in our retreats. I enjoy having walks on the land, sitting in the fields, walking by the creek, and lounging in the dining lodge. I look forward to returning.

Room Tip: Mostly I have camped while there, but I remember really enjoying a sweet cabin right above the lodge

Cozy, warm and very down to earth. Great hiking and amazing views. Fantastic breakfasts. Delighted that things have remained as charming as ever. Definitely will make another return visit.
