OK so you don't get shampoo or a hairdryer or chocolates on your pillow. But Motel 6 is clean, very attractive updated linens, and an absolute price bargain in this beach town. We were five blocks from the beach and found free ocean front parking readily every day and at almost every hour. Hotels in the same town can often run over $300 a night and this was well under 100. So if you're looking for a great place from which to access the beach and all the lovely restaurants in Carlsbad don't Poopoo this very adequate, clean, up-to-date Motel 6.

The room was fine for a Motel 6 and the location was good as was close to both the freeway, downtown Carlsbad, and the beaches. However on the night we stayed the price point was very high for a Motel 6. It was an early August Saturday night and there were very few vacancies anywhere and so we sucked it up and paid the $170 for this Motel 6 room which seemed somewhat outrageous. Front desk was a bit understaffed and so it took a long time to check in because there were 3 people in front of me and only one girl working. I spent 20 minutes waiting with my wife in the car. That was my only minor complaint other than the price.

$303 for a single person, queen bed. No coffee maker, no fridge, no micro, no toiletries, a bed that slid off its base (not traditional bed/box springs). Phone in room didn't work. Additional $2.99 for "email access level Wi-Fi" or $4.99 for "internet browsing Wi-Fi" no drinks in the vending machine and not even the little "do not disturb" door hangers. 10/10 would not stay there again

Want to get away? Love the beach, fresh seafood, boutique shopping, great beer and spirits only steps from the beautiful San Diego coast?

We have stayed here many times! Our favorite room sits right on top of the office. Decor is modern, beds solid, fridge and coffee maker available on request. Rooms have hard wood floors, disability access, pet friendly and sandy feet friendly. Prices can fluctuate from a real steal to higher end by demand given the season and its freeway access.

Can't say enough about the breeze of walking a few blocks to the beach, enjoying the sunset, great coffee and bars, book shops, tourist shops and restaurants along the way.

Save a room in advance, no payment required until checkin, letgo land, outlet shops, flower gardens and top top meats minutes away. Make it a great family vacation to remember without the inflated prices.
