This was my first time staying at the Horizon Inn and it was wonderful! I stayed in a king room with jacuzzi and ocean view. The room was spacious and quiet. The Inn is walking distance to everything but off the beat and path so nice and quiet. There is a common area with fire pit and hot tub and a place to get ice and water (to fill up your reusable water bottle!) The front desk attendants were very friendly and helpful. There is a daily continental breakfast delivered daily in a picnic basket that had a variety of food selections. There is parking both on site and on nearby streets (we never had a problem finding a spot, even on the holiday weekend). I definitely plan to return in the future.

I really enjoyed it here. We arrived early to park our car in the lot so we can enjoy Carmel’s farmers market on Thursdays. We were happily greeted by the front desk, great service. We eventually came back and checked in after 3 pm with no delay. They have a cute happy hour offering for guests from Sunday through Thursday. We stayed in room 114 which was nice and spacious - it’s a room at the end of the hotel, very private and most importantly, even though it’s technically on the ground floor there is no room on top so you won’t be affected by noise or the sound of people walking. It is connected to one room but we barely heard any noise. If you are affected by traffic noise I would recommend selecting this room. The balcony was very private and you can see the ocean horizon, especially on a beautiful clear day. Breakfast in the basket was cute. I can’t wait to return!

Room tip: Room 114 is perfect, big balcony, great privacy. No other room on top.

This place was great….in 1940. A strong mildew smell greeted us each time we entered our room. The cramped single sink bathroom counter was too small for two people to get ready at once. The kitchen was similarly tiny. The picnic basket breakfast was cute, but not enough to satisfy a hearty appetite. We asked for and we’re promised a “to go” breakfast for an early departure, but never received it. For $250 plus per night we were expecting much more.

Lodging in Carmel is very expensive, so this was a good choice for value and a satisfactory stay. Pros: our room with King bed had a lovely view over the Carmel rooftops to the highlands, a sunny balcony, and the room was clean enough with mini-fridge, microwave and storage. The daily breakfast basket was a nice touch although we preferred walking into town for a Cappuccino. The outdoor seating area with fire pits and jacuzzi was also lovely for a motel. Cons: We were surprised that the room is over the Carmel Dry Cleaners, so when we returned from a strenuous morning hike for a shower and nap, the room rumbled and you could smell the dry cleaning fluids coming out the chimney (also in front of the balcony). How did that ever make it past the Carmel Board of Health? We would have thought the front desk would alert us to that fact. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable stay for a few nights at the top of the hill.

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here and let me tell you-- we were so in love. Not only is Carmel and visiting Big Sur a whimsical experience but staying at Horizon Inn was the cherry on top. We had the King Bed with jacuzzi and mountain view. Cozy area with extremely professional staff. The inn is really green too and you can tell by their signage and how they run things. Be sure to bring a bottle so you can easily fill up at their bottle filling station! It's close by to all the rooms, just located in the central lounge area.

On our first night, we were in awe with how quiet the area was! So peaceful and Carmel doesn't haven't any streetlights so you only see the gently lit areas from hotels nearby businesses. The girl at the front desk was really knowledgeable and brought out maps for us and drew things out to help us get familiar with the area. We made it in time for our dinner reservation at AW Shucks, which like many restaurants and shops, are only a 5-7 min walk away!

When we came back we enjoyed the jacuzzi in our room, especially with the complimentary bath salt that the inn provides.

What absolutely encapsulated the experience was getting complimentary breakfast baskets each morning. We wanted to stay another night because we felt so welcomed!!

Many thanks to the staff!
