Overview: This is a very nice, brand new select service Hyatt Place. If it is less expensive than full service hotels at LAX, I recommend it.

Tips:
1. You must call the hotel van in order for it to pick you up at LAX. Unlike the large full service hotels that have their vans constantly circle the airport terminals, this van is on call only, and only between 5AM and midnight.
2. Try to get an even numbered room; this faces the vacant grass lot in the back of the hotel and is very quiet.
3. The water pressure is low on the fourth floor, but I'm not sure if its better elsewhere.
4. There are 2 ways of getting into LA. If you are comfortable taking the light rail, you can simply cross the street and get on the train, make 1 connection, and you will be downtown. If you don't want to make 1 connection a stop away from Compton, then the FlyAway bus from terminal 1 works great.
5. The soup and salad on the menu is a good deal. The caesar salad is particularly good.

DETAILS:

Service -- Friendly and polite, but not always efficient. The "gallery host" seemed to have trouble locating a plain pizza on the ordering software, and waited until someone could help her until putting it in. Additionally, the shuttle ONLY runs from 5AM to midnight, so if you are going to catch an early morning flight, this may be a problem. The shuttle driver also came several minutes late, adding to the stress of getting to the airport. These are minor points however.

Value -- On the night of, its online price was $1 cheaper than the Westin LAX and the Hilton LAX. However, it includes free breakfast.

Sleep Quality -- Hyatt Grand Bed, no complaints (although the Westin Heavenly Bed is truly excellent).

Cleanliness -- Very clean, but there were 2 ants in the room. One was crawling up my arm while I was sitting at the desk by the time I noticed it.

Location -- Couldn't be better. Located next to the light rail into downtown LA and very close to the airport. Nice views of planes landing from the rooms, but not loud either. Great.

Rooms -- Very nice for a Hyatt Place. The TV channel selection was especially good. 1 complaint relates to all Hyatt Place hotels: the divider is useless except for obstructing views. 1 complaint related specifically to this property is the low water pressure experienced on the 4th floor.

Restaurant -- As a select service hotel, there is no full restaurant but there is complimentary breakfast and Hyatt Place's own menu. For hotel food, not bad at all. Chicken Caesar salad especially good. Preparation of chocolate cookie could be better.

Swimming pool -- Didn't use it.

Room Tip: Try to get an even numbered room; this faces the vacant grass lot in the back of the hotel and is very quiet. The water pressure is low on the fourth floor, but I'm not sure if its better elsewhere.

We stayed at the Hyatt El Segundo Place on December 30, 2012-January 2, 2013. The hotel is brand new and located about 5 minutes from LAX and 40-45 minutes from John Wayne Airport (Santa Ana/ Orange County). We visited Santa Monica, Los Angeles, Venice Beach and Long Beach the hotel is centrally located to these places and it never took us more than 25-35 minutes to get anywhere.

Like the other Hyatt's I've stayed at in the past our room was set up the same way Queen size bed and convertible couch/ bed. I think you could sleep 4-5 people in a room if you had too we had three total. They did serve a FREE delicious skillet breakfast from 6-930 am. Free Wifi, although it was a little slow it worked fine for my iPad.

The room was extremely clean. New towels, brand new everything. No dirt anywhere. I actually walked around barefoot, which I normally don't do in hotels. Again the hotel is new and from what I understand only opened a few months ago. The staff are extremely friendly. They always greeted us with a "Good Morning, good afternoon." They answered questions when I asked about visiting local attractions and were attentive.

Stayed 3 nights at this hotel at the end of December 2012, and were impressed by the excellent level of comfort and service offered at this brand new hotel which is very close to LAX airport.
Very comfortable firm beds. Very clean spacious rooms with huge flat screen TV.very friendly and helpful staff.however 2 minor issues: no safe in the rooms and relatively small breakfast area that can fill up at rush time. The food quality and choice is very good.Free wifi an an parking make it an excellent choice.

This property is newly built and opened to the public about December 12, 2012. Of course everything is fresh and new, but in addition the hotel appears to have improvements compared to other Hyatt Places that I have stayed. The room decor is very nice (oversized sofa that was too big for the room has been replaced by more attractive and reasonable size sofa), nice desk and office chair (only one chair per room), nice decor, superb mattress, attractive bathroom, shower and fixtures (water flow in shower lower than I like), very excellent breakfast and generous amount of comfortable seating areas including booths, and fast wireless internet. Large free parking area, and a block away from the Metro Green Line rail system. It seems that Hyatt has carefully looked at their Hyatt Place features and made some very good improvements at this property. I have come to dread staying in some Hyatt Place properties but this one was a great pleasure.
