This Hampton Inn was remodeled and the result is actually very close to a Hilton Garden Inn level. The only difference is that the lobby area is probably a little smaller than many Hilton Garden Inn's. Otherwise, the building, the rooms, everything is really top notch. And this is so unexpected in Goleta!!

The staff is responsive and helpful. The complimentary breakfast is what you'd find at a Hilton Homewood Suites -- lots of options, including fresh-cooked buffet items like eggs, sausage.

The rooms are average size -- everything was redone, including modern bathrooms with excellent lighting (yay!!).

The hotel is within a few miles of UCSB. The street that the hotel is on is downtown Goleta, which is really just one little street of shops and public service agencies. I think it's better during the evening to have a partner to walk with if you're going to take a stroll -- it seems a little lower income and a bit sketchy.

That said, just down the street is a really great sushi restaurant, Goleta Sushi House -- takes about 5 minutes to walk to it. And we were there on a Friday night and the place was packed. It's a bit of a hole-in-the-wall place. Really great food. Lots and lots of options.

Only issue we noticed in the hotel was that there is one elevator servicing the entire hotel -- and it's SLOOOOOW. If you can take the stairs (which need to be cleaned by the way!! -- kind of gross), it's better -- but those are on the far end of each hall.

Very nice and clean room! The pool and jacuzzi area was very nice. Although the elevator was down for awhile it was fixed pretty quickly. Love the Mexican restaurant across the street called El Pollo RICO. Great food!

Compared to the other choices in Santa Barbara, this is by far the best place to stay. C compared to the other choices in Santa Barbara, this is by far the best place to stay. Practically across the street from the airport, yet very quiet. So glad we were able to stay here after one night at a $500 plus hotel off of State Street.

Quick work trip with just a little time for fun hanging out with friends. This was close to Santa Barbara airport ( return for our 6:10 departure), close to Cottage for our conference. Clean quiet room, internet, free parking, nice exercise room (treadmills, one elliptical and a bike plus free weights), good variety at the complimentary breakfast. Walking distance to old town Goleta and restaurants I wanted to try (no time so will need to return!)

Pros
Clean
Comfortable beds
Breakfast included with hot (oatmeal, sausages, make your own waffles, eggs) and cold (cereal, yogurt, limited fruit) items
Friendly staff

Cons
Not much nearby in the immediate surrounding neighborhood (7-11, Wendy's, Thrift Store)
Pricey in the summer over a weekend - $300+
Rooms are small - our room with 2 beds only had room for one person to walk around the beds

Came here for one night for a team tournament in the area and it was fine. We paid the going rate for similar properties in the area (larger chains like the Hilton were double) and for our purposes it was fine. Friendly staff and easy parking.

Room tip: We asked for a quiet room and got a third floor room on the back side
