Take a ride into the hills out of San Diego and you can beat the Lake Cuyamaca area. Camping, hiking, driving...just enjoy it.

This is a fun place to stop for lunch. On HiWay 79 maybe 6 to 7 miles south and west of Juilan. Also access by the Sunrise Highway. Its a nice half day trip from San Diego just for a different sort of meal: East on 8 to the really beautiful Sunrise Highway. Backpack a bit on 79 (couple of miles).

Very quaint inside - more a local hangout than a tourist spot. Reminds me of the sort of diner/restaurant you'd come across vacationing in the summers in the early 60's. The outdoor patio/deck faces the lake and has a beautiful view east over the lake to the hills. Service was leisurely but not a problem.

Pretty big menu: sandwiches, salads, burgers. But also some more interesting fare: catfish, fish and chips.

Beer wine and soft drinks.

Took a short ride out to the Lake. If you are staying in Julian, you have to visit the area around Stonewall mine and the Lake area. Can't say much about the lake because we didn't stop but the land around it, really is like being in Yellowstone. I kept looking for buffalo!

Cute little place to spend a few hours. Breakfast at the lake restaurant was good and below were the views while eating on the outside covered deck. Nice place to visit before headed back to Vegas.
