After driving through the desert from Palm springs coming upon this little community with a damned Lake is a pleasant surprise. The lake, being fully provisioned for water sports is a gem as you exit the desert.

It’s like stepping back in time. This is a very small pristine lake, and seeing the wooden canoes and small boats against the beautiful trees and mountains is almost like a postcard.
The lake has a boat launch, picnic area, fishing spots and plenty of parking.
Pass on the restaurant above though. The food and service were lacking all the way! Go to Julian or Pine Valley for your meals.

I have been coming to this Lake for many many years and have pulled some mighty fine fish out of this lake. I have walked the trails and I have taken my Grand kids on bike rides all around this lake. You will find the folks in the bait shop very helpful and you can find a great meal in the restaurant (their chicken pot pie is soooo good!). They also have 2 condos that you can rent and we have stayed in both of them! They are clean and have a little kitchen that you can make your own food or cook up your fish! You will like it there so make sure you make the trip.

Being a native San Diegan and living in the East County of San Diego, Lake Cuyamaca has been a favorite destination of mind for many years.

The Lake itself is beautiful and is a quiet place to relax and just take in the scenery. It's still a beautiful area and you can still remnants and reminders of one of San Diego County's worst fire which was called the Cedar Fire (2003). Lake Cuyamaca is still a great place to visit. The drive up to the lake is also quite scenic but the roads are winding. Occasionally you will see some of the local wildlife such as deer on the way.

Near the lake there is plenty of parking, sitting areas, store, and restaurant. The restaurant itself has a great view of the lake and offers large portions with decent food.
The lake is not to far from the Towns of Julian and Wynola. My favorite time of the year to go to Lake Cuyamaca is during the Fall. It can be a little chilly so bring a jacket just in case.

This is usually one of three stops we will make if we are traveling to certain destination such Palm Desert or Palm Springs. It a great place to stop to just stretch your legs and enjoy nature. Helps me relax as well before the drive.

Overall I have been fortunate that Lake Cuyamaca is close by and have been fortunate enough to enjoy it for many years. With its beautiful scenery and it being serene, it's the perfect place to visit if you peace and quiet.

On a side note, yesterday Sunday November 19th, 2017 , we saw that there was a $10.00 fee to enter the lakes parking area. I am not quite sure if that is temporary or permanent.

Two fishing experiences- first day caught a fish! Second day rented a pontoon and that was great great fun out on the lake. Sunday Uncle Cory fried the fresh trout and we all enjoyed our appetizer for dinner.
We took our annual Canadian Thanksgiving Family Photo
at the dock so we would always remember this special
addition of the lake and fishing. The adults especially
Enjoyed the lake view from the cabin!
