This is an old school, traditional onsen. It's an hour bus ride from the Chitose airport in Sapporo. Not too hard to get to. If you haven't been to a Japanese bath, this is pretty much the real deal. The Western-style rooms are very spacious and luxurious. You feel like you've been transported to the 1970's. Food is great. Karaoke room at night is lively. Almost no Westerners here, and almost nothing is printed in English. It's lightly snowing here as we speak on March 31st, 2019. Worth making the trip to. This is pretty much the opposite of Akihabara or Dotonburi. The bus from the airport stops running here early afternoon, so try to arrive at the Chitose airport by noon or so. Also, it's much easier and cheaper to get here from Hanami airport in Tokyo than from Narita. Tons of cheap flights under $100 and a closer airport to Tokyo.
Hotel Lobby has been renovted with a stylish look, however room is still a little bit old.
Dinner and Breakfast in their huge Grand Hall restaurant with lots of choice on food and dishes.
Onsen is also a little bit old fashioned but water quality and temperature are great.
Overall experience is good and highly recommended for vistior who plan to visit Noboribetsu-shi.
We wanted a hotel with onsen. This absolutely fits the bill. It is a very large hotel, with a smart lobby and modern extremely spacious rooms.
Nearly all the guests were Japanese when we stayed which you should take as a recommendation.
You can wander up the hill to see the volcanic springs in "hell's valley".
The onsen is excellent. Don't stress if you are not Japanese but do read a good guide on how to behave to avoid embarrassment.
Go on give it a try, we had a great time!
The rooms were just renovated, very modern and functional. It's superbly clean! The dinner and breakfast exceeded our expectation and even better than others 5 star hotel we stayed in Hokkaido. Will stay in this hotel again if to visit Noboribetsu.
It's not that I didn't like. At time, we were quite disappointed by the lobby (which is a bit old style) but then surprised by the room and restaurant. It's a complete reverse of impression! A bit renovation at the hotel reception will make this hotel perfect!
This hotel is convenient to get into as there is a bus terminal (Noboribetsu Onsen station) outside the hotel. If you take JR train to Noboribetsu, you can take either a taxi costing around ¥2000 or bus ¥340/way per pax.
The hotel has a separate bath for female and male (which is rotated daily). The best thing is, within the male/female onsen, they have 4 indoor baths and 2 outdoor baths. It's amazing!
I have tried a few onsens in Japan and this hotel has one of the best onsens.
The hotel also has a restaurant and a mini convenient shop inside. It has a small arcade as well. I meant, we practically didn't leave the hotel after we checked in.
You can walk to Noboribetsu Bear Park and Jigokudani Hell Valley from the hotel. It's definitely worth the stay! (:
