I go to Sushi Freak all the time! I found it just by googling sushi places near me, because since moving to San Diego in March 2015 I couldn't find a decent take out sushi place. After going there, I ordered a custom roll! Yes a custom roll, like Subway, you can add in whatever you want! It tasted DELICIOUS. You can also add in different types on sauces or get them on the side. The 911 sauce is very good and not as spicy as you would think. After going there just to get a sushi roll, I noticed they also have SUSHI BURRITOS! *WHAT?!?!* I have heard of sushi burritos but never though I would actually stumble into a place that had them. I've ordered every sushi burrito there (except the chicken ones). They are so delicious, all my friends and family back home get so jealous when I post a picture of it.

It's a great place to have flavorful sushi rolls/burritos or to bring a friend. The sushi burritos get a little messy towards the last few bites, but that's where your chopsticks come in handy.

Sushi Freak has definitely become a go-to sushi spot for me. Oh and they have Hello Kitty wine!

Another place that was walking distance from our place. We came here about 30 min before they were closing so we were the only people there. It's a small but trendy kind of place. I like how they sold Japanese snacks on the side. Oh and since it was close to New Years they had an array of Hello Kitty wine and champagne! Super cute. Anyway, looking at their menu it appears you can make your own sushi rolls. Kind of like Chipotle style where you tell them what you want in your sushi roll etc. But we just opted for their regular menu. I got the mango tango and a seaweed salad. I forgot what my boyfriend got...think it was the sunset. He also got teriyaki chicken with rice. When we got our food I was surprised they didn't use seaweed (nori) to wrap the sushi but instead it was a soy paper. I didn't mind of course but wasn't expecting it at the same time. Taste wise it was alright but what got us was the sushi rice. It was kind of hard...not sure if they made it that way or if the rice had been sitting out for a little too long. But when it comes to sushi the rice part is pretty important because it can ruin the whole dish if it isn't made right. I think the highlight of the whole mean was the seaweed salad and cucumber salad. The teriyaki chicken was a major disappointment. Something was off about it. We couldn't quite put on finger on it but the chicken seemed really soft (weird). It was pretty bland.

Anyway, this place is mediocre. They have a stamp card thing where if you buy 10 rolls you get one free. I guess that's pretty cool but I wouldn't really recommend this place to anyone especially since the quality of food and price did not match. Also, there's just way better places than this one for the same price. I may give this place a second chance and try their other menu items but chances are slim.

I know I am from the desert in New Mexico. However I love sushi and whenever I go out of town I look for great sushi. I found it here. I actually went to the new one downtown. The prices were very reasonable. The sushi was great!!! I had several rolls and a sushi burrito which was my favorite. My son made his own roll with a combination I would have never tried but that is one of the things that made this so great is that you can make whatever you want. The staff was super friendly and always smiling and this is when the place was packed. What also surprised me was this was fast food sushi essentially but you could see and taste the freshness in the food. It's made right there in front of you and comes out very quickly. With the parking fees in San Diego that alone saved me money. I would tell everyone to go here, I am going back to San Diego in two months and am already dreaming about that sushi burrito. The only complaint I have is that they don't have one in New Mexico. To the owners and staff GREAT JOB!!!!
