The food was very good, almost excellent. I thought the pasta was very fresh, and the carbonara was delicious. The bread was excellent as well, as was the salad and the dressing. The ambiance was very nice. My wife and I arrived quite early, shortly after 4 PM (by the way, I liked that parking was available), and I think at first we were the only people in the restaurant.
It's nice and intimate. The hostess was VERY accommodating, in that she closed the window where we were seated, as it was chilly. She went all the way outside to take care of that for us. And she was gracious and pleasant.
Our server was also very personable and the service was very good.
The manager did visit our table a couple of times as well, to check on us, which was a nice touch.
The only nits on this visit were that despite having told both our server and the manager that it was a special anniversary (25th wedding) that we were celebrating, other than a quick verbal acknowledgement, no other gesture such as a complimentary dessert (we ordered dessert, it was not comped); and that service slowed down a little at the end when we were finished with dessert and wanted the check.
We didn't mention the anniversary specifically to get comped dessert, but I was still surprised that it wasn't more formally acknowledged. Yet the manager seemed pretty focused on getting this good Yelp review. And yes the food was very good but they should know we noticed.
With SO many excellent restaurants both in SF and in Marin, I'm not sure we were wowed enough to return here.
