Stayed here when I accompanied my husband on a business trip. I was excited about the idea of staying at a historic hotel and experience first hand a piece of history. Knowing that the ship today tries to maintain the look, feel, and character of when it was first built I anticipated things to be older and more quaint. What I wasn't expecting or prepared for was things to be broken, old, and uncared for. The ship is in ill repair. Paint is peeling, areas and displays are outdated, fixtures don't work. Its one thing to be historical and antique its another to be in ill repair. The sink in our bathroom has several cracks and chips. The faucet continually drips and there is no stopper for the sink. The glass shelf above the sink is chipped. The bath light fixture didn't work. The wall paper is peeling in multiple locations and bubbling in others. Theres mold/mildew buildup in the shower. In the bedroom one light fixture next to the bed is broken. There is only 1 electrical outlet in the bedroom and one in the bathroom. There is no thermostat in the room and no vent, no register, no fan, and the windows don't open. Theres no way to heat or cool the room or circulate the air. The bed linens while not original (thank goodness) aren't new and aren't hotel quality in terms of look or quality. The fabric on the desk chair is stained in several places. I asked 3 times to have the light in the bath fixed before it was repaired and 4 times for the light in the bedroom. I'm not sure why the maid wouldn't have reported either problem prior to me bringing it to someone's attention and even then why it took multiple stops to the front desk to get both fixed.
The historic displays on the ship are limited and basic. The shops on board have very limited hours. The one bar on board closes at midnight. Theres limited food options and one cafe is closed for renovations.

The hotel is great. Pure nostalgia and the Champagne Brunch is wonderful. The only issue was the bathroom is a bit dated and the toilet sat at a 45 degree angle. Everyone on staff is perfect! We are coming back!

After booking a cruise on the Carnival Miracle we decided to stay overnight on The Queen Mary, which happens to be a few hundred feet from the cruise terminal. Our flight arrived at LAX at about 3PM on Friday, and traffic was horrible so it took nearly an hour an a half to get to the Queen. Check-in was quick (there's a 5' Teddy bear in a bellhop uniform behind the desk-you can buy a smaller version in one of the shops aboard,) and we were in our deluxe port hole cabin quickly. If you remember that you're on an old, historic luxury liner and not at a new modern hotel, you will be more likely to find the accommodations charming, as we did. The cabin had a WC (notice how British I'm feeling,) a desk (and a built-in, collapsing desk/table,) comfy chairs, two narrow closets, two portholes, a pair of old air vents which were neat, and a lot of built-in shelves. There were too many neat little touches to describe, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. We had dinner on board at the Chelsea Chowder House and Bar, and it was excellent (Fish 'n chips.) After dinner we did our own tour of the ship (you can do a free audio tour as a guest) and met friends at the Observation Bar for drinks. The next morning we toured the engine room (it was kind of amazing) and did a little shopping before crossing over to the cruise terminal to get checked in for the Miracle. It was a fascinating and wonderfully convenient place to stay before a cruise.

Room Tip: We booked a deluxe cabin with a port hole and were upgraded to starboard side to overlook the water.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on this Grand Lady of the High Seas. Comfortable quiet rooms with original furnishings! A stroll into time with the many displays of old photos. Really enjoyed the stories recorded from the people who worked on board, journeyed for pleasure and the soldiers carried on the decks of this ship. Enlightening display regarding Winston Churchill's connection to the pride of the British Navy! We feel so fortunate to have been able to explore this living museum! We also had time to enjoy tea in the beautifully appointed tearoom with delicious treats to eat. Just a delightful experience all the way around!

We drove from Chicago to LA and decided to splurge on our last two nights, my husband had wanted to stay aboard for a long time! We were not at all disappointed, our room was lovely, very Art Deco with a few modern touches to enhance the stay. Our breakfast was great, we chose the buffet as it included coffee! Dinner was also very good and we ate there both nights. Great experience!
