Stopped by and had a double dipped beef sandwich. They still have the great taste same quality of meat. Available parking in the back or across the street. Had some macaroni salad was as good as I could remember. My friend had a pineapple pie and loved it along with a slice of peach pie.

Going to Philippe's has always been a real treat for me. I've driven hours in Los Angeles traffic just to get a beef dip. The ladies behind the counter are very sweet and if it your first time there, they can help you make your choice. When you walk in, you will stand in the shortest line you can find. Don't sit down. Just walk up to the counter and wait. Once at the counter, just tell them what you want. Don't be alarmed if they don't write anything done. They memorize what you want and begin to make it right there. Once you have your food, grab a seat closest to Alameda St in order to people watch. There are two wooden telephone booths closest to the entrance as well as pictures of Los Angeles dating back to the 1940's. Once you are done, just leave your tray there and someone will pick it up for you. Parking is free both on the property and across the street. Metered parking is also available on Alameda St if you are lucky. If the line is long, just wait. It will be well worth it.

Good service with friendly welcoming staff. We found this place by accident, we were going to L.A. Dodgers game and was in the area, lots of fans were having a 'pre-game' drink & grabbing food, as a foreigner it was good to see how the locals are. We only had a couple of beers but food looked reasonably priced. Also got an education into it’s history, of a cop (Officer French) who's server dropped his sandwich into the gravy by mistake 80 years ago. Rushed for time he said he'd still have it. The next day he came back with all his colleagues to order the same thing. Hence the French Dip was born.
Great location used by all the locals 8/10

So, I've tried the other guys and thought they were the best. Then I had a French dip from Philippe. I can't believe I've been wrong all of these years! The bread is soft and flaky, the meat tender and flavorful, and the au jus is just.... Ahhhhh that jus! You must try if you're a French dip lover!

Phillippe's is like walking into a time machine. One of the oldest restaurants in Los Angeles, you order at the counter and they prepare French Dip sandwiches that are delicious. I recommend the Sliced Lamb double dipped, with a side of cole slaw. Be careful of their mustard, but in small doses it is delicious, but very spicy.

It gets crowded at lunch, but if you are visiting Olvera street, it is within walking distance.
