Owner description: Melrose Avenue's Groundlings have been practicing their high-octane brand of anything-goes improvisation for nearly three decades. Audiences know the group for their wacky sketch comedy and lightning audience participation rounds, but for aspiring comedians and writers it's the Groundlings School that's the real draw. With courses in beginning and advanced improv, sketch and monologue comedy, the school has trained several generations of young wits. Its alumni includes a laundry list of "SNL"-ers (Phil Hartman, Julia Sweeney, Will Ferrell, Laraine Newman), Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson and Emmy-winning "Friends" star Lisa Kudrow. The theatre was also the home of Paul Reubens' early, raunchier version of "Pee-Wee's Playhouse." With pristine standards and a pool of hundreds of talented newcomers to draw from, the troupe offers some of the quickest, cleverest improv in town, cozily presented in their own 100-seat theater.

Our family of five loves live comedy and while on vacation in LA, we booked ourselves in to a Groundlings show. Shows are open to kids 16 and up so that was perfect for us. The theatre is small so you're right in the mix. The talented cast was testing out new sketches, many of which were hilarious. Good opportunities for audience participation, too, which means the show will vary every night. We took the opportunity after the show to check out the pictures of Groundlings past and present that line the lobby. So many familiar faces, including the irreplaceable Phil Hartman. We had a blast and wouldn't hesitate to go again.

This is a great night out. Tickets are reasonable and the show is very funny. The theater is small and cozy...seemed like every seat has a good view. Beware of audience participation! Only thing I wish they would do is let people get seated as they arrive instead of the cattle call right at show time.

My wife and I went to the Garbage Pail Groundlings show here last weekend. Non-stop laughter. Every time a sketch ended, we couldn't wait to see what was next. Excellent value.

If you're an SNL fan, you gotta come see where these people get their start at the Groundlings. It was extra special for me knowing this is where Phil Hartman, one of my favs, spent the early part of his performing career. They even named the theater in his honor.

Excellent show! This was our first time, but we thoroughly enjoyed the show. The cast and crew put on 20 different skits in rapid form succession. The improv session was nothing short of masterful! Groundlings is in a small, intimate theater, but the performers were world-class!! If you are in LA and want a fun night, check out the Groundlings! I also think the band was solid and added to the enjoyment!! Each. Igor has a different show so I can't wait to come back and go on a different night!

What a fun night out! Went to Seven Deadly Sundays show with teen son. We both laughed out loud! Tix were available on Gold Star and Groupon at a discount but were sold out by the time we decided to go (about 3pm). Bought tix easily online. Found parking on side street off of Melrose. It is general seating and they open the door about 5 minutes before it begins. Comfortable seating where you can see all action easily. Watched 15-20 skits about a few minutes each. Great topics from yoga class to cooking for one (still laughing at that one!). Especially loved the improv skit. Fabulous actors! No intermission. Moved quickly and wanted more!
