My husband and I stayed for three nights so that we'd have plenty of time to explore Lassen. It's about 25 minutes from the park, which is about as close as you can get without camping in the park itself.
Sharon and Jim are warm and friendly and have an encyclopedic knowledge of the area.
The lodge is an old roadhouse that feels historic but doesn't lack in conveniences and comfort. We were a little worried about it being so close to the road, but the back rooms are quiet and comfortable.
The food is home cooking at its best, and the little tavern provides a fun way to get to know the other travelers and unwind after a day of hiking and exploring. (Don't worry--it's not loud and quiets down pretty early.)
