We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room was fabulous - comfortable bed, huge jetted tub, robes - and extremely quiet at night. The location was within walking distance to the wine train, Napa river bike trail, and many wonderful restaurants. The breakfasts each morning were amazing.

We spent 3 nights in the Miss Dorothy room. John and Maria were very gracious hosts. We enjoyed a nice cappuccino, a wonderful dish of fresh fruit and a different entree each morning. Very convenient location in downtown Napa. Walking distance to many restaurants and shops Hoping to visit again soon!

We selected the Cedar Gables Inn based on many great reviews here on Trip Advisor.
As it turned out - they were all correct! What a great place to call home base while we toured around Napa.

The new owners, John and Maria, were great hosts and you could feel the excitement as they talked about all the plans they have to make changes to this historic home built in the 1890's. John has some pretty ambitious ideas and he and Maria plan to put some serious money into upgrades.

Our room was very comfortable. The two-seater deep jacuzzi bath was a nice place to sip some wine and relax after a long day of touring, walking, driving and hiking.

The 'family style' breakfast was exceptional. Our first morning we met people from as far as Australia, UK and across USA. The conversation was most excellent and we ended up spending more time sitting at breakfast than expected.

Hot fresh coffee or espresso was a great start. Maria served fresh fruit plates that were delicious. John was hilarious dressed in his chef apron and whipping up a wonderful HOT breakfast. This was no continental offering. We started our day with full bellies!!

Part of the reason we chose this location was the ability to walk right into town. In just a few minutes we were down at the new waterfront as well as wandering around the beautiful downtown. There were plenty of excellent restaurants to choose from and we were able to stroll back to the inn and felt very safe.

One night we sat in the kitchen for a good hour with John while sipping some wine and enjoying 'nibblies'. He has traveled all over the world, and our conversation was very animated and most excellent. A real nice bonus.

John had lots of advice on places to try and was also kind enough to provide some wine tasting 'specials' for us.

In all - a great little town. A great old Inn. And a very nice couple who were awesome hosts.

Mark:

Your stay with us was just as memorable and fun for us as it was seemingly for you. We enjoy having company around at the Cedar Gables Inn. Our goal is to whisk away guests for the weekend -- take them away from their daily rigamarole so they can enjoy the epicurean delights of Napa and enjoy other people--meeting strangers, having conversation. We definitely are embarking on a journey of our own with this grand old inn as we look to retain the charm but also provide some enhanced comforts. We're so happy to hear your feedback and know that you had a great stay. Definitely visit us again if you are ever in Napa.

We'd love to host you--next time book direct at cedargablesinn.com where you will find our lowest rate and be able to directly engage with us.

Best Regards,

John and Maria

We were surprised when we checked in at Cedar Gables and were greeted by John, the new proprietor. We had not previously stayed here but had read great reviews. John and Maria have certainly lived up the the Inn's good reputation.
The house is a living museum, built in 1892. For those that appreciate stained glass, hand carved woodwork and furniture and secret stairways, you are in for treat. We stayed in the Lady Margaret room which was large and comfortable, though a little dark. They plan to change the blinds to allow more sunlight in.
Tasty and filling breakfasts (of varying cuisines from day to day) were served whenever you wanted in the 8:30-10 timeframe, although we frequently lingered later to chat with John and the guests and enjoy John's delicious coffees.
John and Maria were both typically engaging the guests at their nightly wine and cheese offering at 6:30. Why more folks did not take advantage of this we still don't understand.
The Inn's location was very good - a 5-10 minute walk to downtown. It's on a residential street with a little bit of traffic in the morning. We had no concerns but if mild road noise would bother you, get a room in the back of the house.
