Charming and friendly neighborhood restaurant in the Piedmont area, just a few steps from Fenton's Creamery. Pho noodles were fresh and broth very tasty. Emphasis on quality and not quantity. Decor warm and inviting. Great place for a tasty lunch.

Friends brought me to Xyclo on September 26, 2015, for dinner. We ordered Coconut Prawns), Tumbling Dice, and Seven Elements Salad. Each dish was exceptional and reasonably priced. The coconut prawns was not the usual coconut battered fried dish, but a large block of coconut meat with the prawns, which appeared to have been grilled or roasted to perfection, in the hollowed-out top, with luscious, soft, young coconut coating the hollow. We used the large shrimp to dip out the soft, young coconut meat. So scrumptious! The five elements salad was, similarly, a delicious combination of nuts, cabbage, ginger, small pieces of lime (zest included), which you mix together and wrap in a lettuce leaf. It was a wonderful combination of flavors and textures. Finally, and my least favorite, only because it was more familiar, yet still wonderful, was the cubed filet mignon sautéed with garlic and onions atop mixed greens. The cubes were tender and delicious.

The food at Xyclo was very good. Not great, but very good. Great would require something unusual; something with a special sizzle, a special taste, an unusual combination of ingredients. Xyclo has good basic food, but there was nothing special; nothing that made us think, "Wow!" With the possible exception of the non-alcoholic beverages with all the fruits. THEY were great.

I recently took a friend out to lunch here. Based on the number of paleo-friendly dishes, vegetarian options, and fresh ingredients, the menu was a perfect match. The ambiance was O.K. They left the door open, I suppose to let in fresh air, but we had to move tables to get out of the cool air. The wait staff was very attentive. The food was delicious. The price was a bit high for lunch (around $40 without tip). Here's what we ate:

Tao Rolls (6 vegetarian rolls in rice paper)
Bok Choy
Chicken Pho (waitstaff was great about replacing rice noodles with veggies for me)
Genmaicha Brown Rice Green Tea

I will just add that parking on Piedmont Ave. can be difficult, so give yourself time to find a space.

Though primarily a Vietnamese cuisine, they offer a menu of pan-Asian choices. There is something for everyone. Most of the dishes seemed bland for perceived American palates, but I am sure you can "heat it up" upon request. My own Bun Cha Hanoi dish had a bed of rice noodles that were actually a tad chilly. But overall the food was good and we enjoyed the meal.
