Roundstone Farm Bed and Breakfast Inn
Ranked #1 of 2 Olema B&B and Inns
Reviewed 10 November 2015

My wife and I recently spent a very enjoyable weekend at the Roundstone Farm Bed and Breakfast Inn in Olema. The Inn is ideally located in the Pt. Reyes seashore area for easy exploration of the surrounding countryside. Our room and the Inn were extremely clean and well kept. Frank, the proprietor, was an excellent host and provided a delicious full breakfast each morning. The surrounding farm is picturesque with horses and an abundance of wild birds. Views of the nearby mountains from the guest rooms were outstanding. The Inn has an onsite hot tub which was especially appreciated after a long day of exploring the nearby seashore. All in all, the Roundstone Inn was a great destination and we will return!

Room Tip: All rooms are spacious and have good views of the property.

This Inn looks like a private home with a lot of bedrooms that was turned into a B&B, but there's no innkeeper on-site so it lacks a personal touch. It's a 1980s house next to an electric substation on the main road into Olema. However, its back "yard" is a meadow with picture-perfect views beyond that make it easy to see why people fall in love with Northern California.

We arrived to find a note on the door telling us the code for the lock box and how to find our room, then were on our own until breakfast the next day. Our room was up some stairs in the front of the house and looked like it might once have been a family room -- it had a soaring ceiling, fireplace, windows on three sides, enough room for an extra bed in a corner, and a closet/bathroom stuck in the middle of the space that seemed to be an afterthought. It did get some noise -- from guests parking in the driveway below, people chatting on the deck out back, and the road (though really most things in that rural area are built along the road.) But it was comfortable, set apart from the other rooms, and had windows on three sides -- when all were open, a wonderful breeze flowed through. Best of all, the view out back was gorgeous -- we even slept with the curtains open so we could look out at night.

This is a place for independent travelers who are more interested in the area than in the inn itself -- it's real, not an overdecorated fantasy. The living room is chock full of books and reference material about the area; birds flock to the feeders in the garden off the dining room, and the deck is a nice place to relax. Once we finally met him, we found the innkeeper to be personable and chatty -- he shared some interesting stories about the area and its wildlife while cooking our breakfast.

All in all, a good option in a popular area.

Twenty-six years ago DW and I stayed here on our honeymoon and loved everythng about the Inn. Returning for the first time a few days ago we found it hadn't changed much and we still loved the inn.
Now run by the second generation of innkeepers, it retains the charm and comfort of the years past. Each room has a different view, the pond, the meadow, the ridge, etc. All have fireplaces and comfortable beds.
Breakfast was a treat with fresh fruit, fresh breads and a hot dish. You won't go hungry.
The common room has ample seating, lots of brochures, etc on the area, including restaurant menus.
Not an inexpensive retreat, but worth the cost. Hope to go back, this time in less than 26 years.

Room Tip: The Pond Room has the only King Bed and the lagoon room the best view.

Frank, the proprietor, keeps this place in tip-top shape. The place was very clean, bright, and secure. Our room was well furnished without being stuffy or spartan with a sizable bathroom. They provide lots of fresh towels, freshen the bathroom, and make the bed every morning (I was pleasantly surprised by this).

Beautiful plants and greenery surround the house, plus birds and horses on opposite sides of the house.

Breakfast was great! (Frank is also the chef) He makes creative meals and makes sure to separate meats for vegetarians. Also very good refilling coffee cups.

Overall highly recommended if you're staying in the area. The hiking sites, Pt Reyes, etc are all easy access

Stayed here last year and liked it so well we decided to return. Accommodations are quite nice with large common area, patio in front, flower garden in back with covered hot tub. Convenient to Point Reyes and other locales. Frank is great conversationalist as well as gourmet cook.

Room Tip: Vision room is best
