Roundstone Farm Bed and Breakfast Inn
Ranked #1 of 2 Olema B&B and Inns
Reviewed 31 July 2017 via mobile

Pros:
Easy walk to Olema's two or three storefronts, and a quick drive to the national seashore visitor center and to Point Reyes Station.

Congenial and knowledgeable proprietor.

Private, quiet room (except for the nighttime bullfrogs, but what can you do?)

Freshly made and filling breakfast.

No TV, no commotion, no drama.

Lots of animals to watch right outside.

Cons:

Inn was built and decorated in the 1980s and is showing wear and tear.

Towels and bedclothes seem equally old.

The room (Ridge Room) was spacious and tastefully (but not over-) decorated. The common areas are welcoming, and the breakfast great. The location is highly convenient to the Point Reyes National Seashore. Highly recommended!

This house is quite nice. The location is near downtown Olema (OK, there isn't too much there) and not far from great hiking at Pt. Reyes. The room was nice sized and comfortable, and the common areas were very nice. There is lots of privacy here - you may not even see the owner till breakfast (which is quite good) the first morning. The room is not air-conditioned, but we were there during an uncommon heat wave, and it still cooled down fairly nicely in the evening with the windows open. This is a place for solitude - no television etc. The inn was quite nice, and the hot tub was very pleasant and well maintained.

We've stayed at Roundstone Farms multiple times, and the biggest problem we've had is that we never want to leave. It's that comfortable! The room we stayed in, The Vision Room, has such amazing views, especially in the morning with the fog floating over the hills. The building was designed as a B&B and it shows. Rooms are spacious, open and full of light, beds are comfortable with ironed linens and tons of pillows, bathrooms are modern and the wi-fi signal is strong. Best of all is the great room with its wall of glass looking back over the hills and farm. It's a great place to just hang out and chat with other guests or read up on on the area from one of the many books or magazines conviently placed on the tables. Coffee and tea are available all the time, and there is a hot tub open until 10 pm which was well used during our visit. Breakfast is always the highlight of the day. Frank, the owner, serves freshly ground coffee, orange juice, fresh-cut fruit, yogurt, homemade sweet breads and a daily homemade main dish which is always different- anything from apple pancakes, to quiche, to paninis with fresh mushrooms and spinach - all accompanied by a huge serving of bacon or sausage. Aside from the sumptuous eats, Frank is a naturally born storyteller who will keep you entertained till noon with tales of his infamous escapades. He's also a master gardener and has so much knowledge about the area that you'll never be at a loss for something to do or places to visit. The B&B is perfectly located for hiking in Point Reyes National Seashore, as well as Muir Woods and the Mount Tamalpais area. A large percentage of its guests are repeat customers which speaks volumes for the comfort and ambiance of the facility. We were there for nine days and are already trying to determine when we can make it back.

Room Tip: The Vision Room has spectacular views. There are short stairs to each room. Be prepared to carry you...

Most bed and breakfasts are older lodging, sometimes Victorian, but this was built as a B&B, albeit in the 1980s. The rooms are large and light (many skylights in the entire inn) with functioning comfortable bathroom, a fireplace, baseboard heating, and a comfortable bed (perhaps Tempurpedic).

We had two windows which looked out on pasture land with many varieties of birds (they have feeding stations in the back), the low coast hills, and the scent of the sea when open. There were robes for using the hot tub. We did not use it because the overhead lights were not functioning and another couple said it was difficult to lift the cover, especially in the dark.

The main room is heated by a wood stove, there is ample supply of reading material, and in the past, many choices of music (we did not try this ourselves). Tea and coffee are always available. One sits in comfortable chairs with good lighting or a sofa. The parking is convenient.

It is a short walk down the hill to Olema with its choice of restaurants and it is a short drive to Pt. Reyes National Seashore.

The breakfast was average for B&Bs—orange juice, small bowl of diced fruit, a quiche, and coffee or tea which you bring over with you. The innkeeper is genial and full of information about the region. All in all, a delightful visit that we will make again in the future.

Room Tip: Only a few rooms and all good.
